Worlds 2021 quarterfinal results — new tournament record and undefeated South Koreans
League of Legends World Championship 2021 quarterfinals took place on October 25. According to its results there were four teams that made it to the semifinals — T1, Gen.G, DAMWON KIA Gaming and Edward Gaming. In a new Esports Charts article, you will find out more about the Worlds 2021 quarterfinals statistics.
In only one of the four quarterfinals, there was a real struggle: Royal Never Give Up vs. EDward Gaming match, which ended 2-3. That match, however, was the least popular of the first playoff matches, reaching only 1.86 million Peak Viewers.
The rest of the matches ended 3-0, and three Korean teams — T1, DWG KIA, and Gen.G — became semifinalists. The last hopes of the West, Cloud9 and MAD Lions, left the championship.

The most popular first day match of the playoffs was between the reigning world champions DWG KIA and the winners of the summer split in Europe — MAD Lions. The match was watched by both Koreans and English-speaking spectators and reached 2.29 million Peak Viewers — the current record of the tournament!
Compared to last year's Worlds quarterfinals, the current Worlds has failed to attract more Peak Viewers: the MAD Lions vs. DWG KIA match had 5.4% less viewers than the most popular Worlds 2020 quarterfinals match — Fnatic vs. Top Esports.
However, the playoff's Average Viewers increased by about 2% and reached 1.4 million spectators. Hours Watched of the playoff also increased similarly — considering that the teams played on one more map in the quarterfinals in the last World Championship.
English-language broadcasts of the quarterfinal games of Worlds 2021 showed quite weak statistics. The duel between MAD Lions and DWG KIA became only the seventh most popular match at the championship by language with a peak of 586K viewers.
But the Korean Worlds 2021 streams showed more confident statistics. The two quarterfinals became the most popular games by Korean language matches at the championship. The first place went to the T1 — Hanwha Life Esports game with 593 thousand viewers at the peak.

For the first time since 2017 no team from Europe or North America will compete in the Worlds semifinals. This will certainly affect viewership of the championship, because Europeans and Americans usually follow Western teams primarily.
There is no doubt that the most popular semifinal of Worlds 2021 will be the clash between the reigning world champions and T1, and this match may also set the tournament's record for Peak Viewers: LoL fans around the world, especially the Koreans, are wondering how far Faker can go.
Worlds 2021 semifinal matches will be held on October 30 and 31 in a best-of-five format. On the first day Edward Gaming will compete with Gen.G, and on the second day T1 will have a match with DAMWON KIA Gaming. The final match of the championship will be held on November 6 without an audience, but it will be shown in 70 cinemas in Europe.
