Worlds 2022 — complete viewership results of Play-In
Worlds 2022 Play-In has come to an end, and all 16 participants in the tournament's Group Stage have been determined. In a new Esports Charts article, we will cover the results, the most popular teams and Play-In matches, and compare the stage's viewership statistics with last year's Worlds.
The first round of Play-In ended with the top two teams, Fnatic and DRX, advancing to the Worlds 2022 Group Stage. Evil Geniuses and Royal Never Give Up were the strongest in the second round and finished second in their respective groups. The American and Chinese teams eliminated MAD Lions and DetonatioN FocusMe in the decisive matches.

The Play-In matches totaled more than 38.1 million Hours Watched and drew 747.9K Average Viewers. The event reached its Peak Viewers number of just over 1.1 million people at the Fnatic vs. Evil Geniuses match on Day 1 of the tournament. It should be noted that almost all metrics of the finished Worlds 2022 stage turned out to be worse than last year's results. The PV number dropped by 17%, the AV number dropped by 15%, and only the HW number increased by 8% as a result of a significant increase in Airtime.
LOUD became the most popular team at the end of Play-In. Its matches were watched by 835.6K AV. Evil Geniuses is in second place by this metric, drawing only 4% fewer AV at its matches. MAD Lions rounds out the Top 3 with 793.4K viewers.
The most popular channel broadcasting Worlds at this stage is the Riot Games Twitch channel. Its viewers accumulated more than 12.1 million HW, which is 31.7% of the Play-In total. CBLOL and LLA are also in the Top 3 by this metric, amassing 3.7 million and 3.2 million HW, respectively.
The leader among broadcast languages is English, which accumulated almost 40% of the Play-In HW. Spanish and Portuguese contributed 16% and 15% of HW, respectively. It should be noted that the same three languages are in the Top 3 by PV at this stage of Worlds 2022.

The Worlds 2022 matches are being played at a time that is far from the most convenient for Asian and European viewers, which has caused many of the broadcast languages to experience a decline in viewership compared with last year's Play-In stage. The viewership statistics of many of them have literally collapsed, and we will tell you more about that soon.
