YaLLa Compass 2024 hits 122K Peak Viewers as regional bigwigs collide on Day 1
The first day of the YaLLa Compass 2024, being held at the Space 42 Arena in Abu Dhabi, concluded on June 5. This S-Tier Counter-Strike 2 competition features three of the top ten teams as per the HLTV world rankings, but the competition will remain intense among the 12 sides as they look to end the season on a high.
The most popular match on Day 1 was between BetBoom Team and FURIA Esports, which reached 87.6K Peak Viewers. It was by far the top entry on this table, with the second-best game only accruing 59.5K PV, a huge 47.2% lower.

As two of the most followed Counter-Strike sides from their regions, BetBoom and FURIA enjoy massive followings and attract large crowds wherever they play. Moreover, Portuguese and Russian viewers are some of the most passionate and competitive when it comes to supporting their team, and this cocktail of teams and fans helped this Group B encounter set a marker for the rest of the event to follow.
For those keeping track, the Brazilian side eased to a 13:1 win on Nuke to offset an opening loss to BIG. Interestingly, this clash from earlier in the day saw the German side ease to a 13:3 victory. although it lost its subsequent two games to fall to fifth on the table. The tournament has already become the sixth-most popular in 2024 when looking at events below a prize pool of $400,000, and with lots of action to come, the organizers will hope it can finish higher and get the series off to a good start.

So far, every side has played three games each in both groups, with Ninjas in Pyjamas and The MongolZ topping Pool A with 3:0 records. The other pool has FURIA and BetBoom at the top with identical 2:1 records.
At the end of the YaLLa Compass 2024's Group Stage on May 3, the top three from each group will progress to the Playoffs of this $400,000 competition. While the toppers will receive byes to the Semifinals, the third-placed side will meet the runner-up from the other pool in the Quarterfinals.
One trend noticed so far is that the second most popular language has been Portuguese, hitting more than double the watch time of Russian and over six times its peak concurrent viewers. This is despite the latter coming second on both counts at the two qualification events — YaLLa Compass Spring 2024 and YaLLa Compass Fall 2023.
The inclusion of a Brazilian roster, that too one as beloved as FURIA, has played a big part in this rise. It might still be early, but if this esports organization does well, there could be a new second language at this tournament, even if only for the moment.
