PUBG esports circuit 2023 gets Americas Series 1 and EMEA Championship: Spring boost — viewer statistics of events

Two major PUBG tournaments that began the journies for teams to reach the mid-season’s PUBG Global Series 2023 Phase 1 (to be held at the Battle Arena Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from April 27 to May 7) ended over the past week. And it’s safe to say there was only one winner when it came to viewership numbers, although the reasons are pretty obvious.

The PUBG Americas Series Phase 1 took place from March 24 to March 27, while the PUBG EMEA Championship: Spring ran from March 9 to March 26. These regional online leagues served as qualifiers for the main event of the first half of the season, the PGS, which will work as a qualification competition for the big ticket show, the PUBG Global Championship 2023.

Luminosity Gaming, Shoot To Kill, and Third Eye joined Soniqs, the Global Partner team, from the Americas region at the PGS1. From the EMEA Championship, HOWL Esports and Acend qualified to join Global Partner teams NAVI, Twisted Minds, and FaZe Clan at the event.

The PUBG EMEA Championship: Spring did 751K Hours Watched44K Peak Viewers, and 25K Average Viewers, with the Peak Match coming from Round 15 on Day 3 of the Finals. Turkish was the most popular language with 20K PV, followed by English at 15 PV and Russian, which notched 8K PV.

Twitch turned out to be the most popular platform, registering 40K PV, followed by YouTube, which did 3K PV. No other platform really moved the needle, but knowing that the purple platform is what most in the region prefer, that was not surprising.

Coming to the PUBG Americas Series Phase 1, it did 170K HW19K PV, and 12K AV; the Peak Match coming from Round 13 of the Final Day. The top two languages had a pretty close fight, but English (10K PV) managed to edge out Portuguese (7.8K PV) at the end, with Spanish (1.3K PV) rounding off the podium.

Again, Twitch was the most popular site, doing 13K PV, followed by YouTube with 5K PV.. Like EMEA, the Amazon-owned platform is the most preferred in these regions, while YouTube is pretty popular in regions like Brazil, thus getting a boost in viewership compared to Europe and the Middle East.

When comparing the two PUBG tournaments, the European and Middle East one comes out as the easy winner in terms of viewership numbers. It did almost four and a half times better when counting HW, while it was 230% better off when looking at the PV.

One major reason for the EMEA event attracting more viewers was the active community casting scene here, especially on Twitch. The tournament also had many more channels covering it, including broadcasts from the popular Turkish streamer and founder of BBL Esports, Ferit "wtcN" Karakaya.

Turkish in general has been a highly successful language for the game and its esports scene in this region, and it took up a good 42.24% of the overall viewership stats at the PUBG EMEA Championship: Spring.

These regional leagues are also the first in the new PUBG esports roadmap that was incorporated this year, replacing the usual PUBG Continental Series that served as a step in qualifying for the season-ending PGC. These PCs were quite successful in bringing in viewers, with the last iteration, Season 7, bringing in 33K PV in Europe and 28K PV to the Americas region.

\The new roadmap for PUBG esports has seen an earnest start through the above competitions, and with a few more regional leagues set to start over the next few months, things are getting interesting. It remains to be seen which teams qualify for the PGS1.
