The Bali Major 2023 loses viewership Day 1 compared to last Major
On the 29th of June, The Bali Major 2023 officially opened with Day 1 of the Group Stage. Taking place in Indonesia, it is the third and final Major of the 2023 Pro Circuit. Take a dive into the initial metrics coming out of the first day of the event.
Throughout the first day of the Group Stage, the first Dota Pro Circuit Major in Indonesia received 1.6M Hours Watched. Peak Viewers stood at 223K and Average Viewers settled at 141K. 16 teams are attending the event and these teams are split into Group A and Group B. Each team played twice on Day 1, equalling 16 total series played. Due to the large amount of series to be broadcasted, the coverage of the Major is spread across four streams.
The top match by Peak Viewers was Gaimin Gladiators vs Quest Esports, which had an Average Concurrent Viewers figure of 101K. The match ended in a tie; Quest Esports got a chance to show off before Riyadh Masters 2023, which they recently qualified for by winning the Middle East and North Africa Qualifier.

Compared to ESL One Berlin Major 2023, the last Major event, The Bali Major 2023 suffered a significant downturn in viewership. Both Average Viewers and Peak Viewers suffered a decline of over 30%, whereas Hours Watched dipped by 28%, partially boosted by an hour and a half extra Airtime.
It is worth mentioning, Bali is in a GMT+8 timezone. Matches began at 02:00 am GMT and ended at just 09:30 am. Not the ideal timeslot for European viewership of the games.
Perhaps helped along by this early start to Day 1, Russian took the spot as the most popular language for streams. Russian was over twice as popular in comparison to English per Hours Watched, a noteworthy increase compared to other Dota 2 events. Spanish and some Asian languages were also relatively popular.
Just as it was at ESL One Berlin Major 2023, Nix once again took the spot of the most-watched channel. Nix is a Russian community caster that covers professional Dota 2 matches and came out ahead of the rest of the channels. His Peak Viewers almost reached 60K and he was live for 9 hours throughout the day. In fact, Russian streams made up the top three most-watched channels for the event so far.
Although it’s been a slow start for The Bali Major 2023, it's unclear how much of the decline in viewership is due to time zones. In any case, the upcoming days of the Group Stage this weekend will likely receive more attention. Esports Charts will have all the data as The Bali Major 2023 progresses.
