Capcom Pro Tour gets record $2 million prize pool, signals competitive debut of Street Fighter 6
Capcom has announced that Season 10 of the Capcom Pro Tour (CPT) will carry a prize pool of over $2m (£1.65m), the highest ever for any game in fighting esports. This amount will be distributed across the events occurring over the season, with the video game developer also revealing that gamers qualifying for the Capcom Cup X event will battle it out for a grand prize of $1m.
With this rise in the prize money, this event will dole out the largest cash prize to a Capcom Cup winner in tournament history, as it will see a nearly 520% increase in the prize money. Last year’s Capcom Cup IX had a prize pool of $298,500, which was handed out among all the participants, with the winner pocketing $120,000.

This news is further proof that the organization, headquartered in Osaka, is living up to its 2018 claims to promote esports with ‘full force.’ Since then, Capcom has worked constantly to improve its games and esports events, with a partnership secured with Arby’s in February 2022 that would lead to the restaurant chain sponsoring the 2021 CPT Season Final.
Capcom also disclosed a few details about the 2023 CPT, with the company looking to start the circuit sometime in the summer. It will kick off via offline and online competitions that will accompany its World Warrior program, a regional competition that adds 26 slots to the Capcom Cup. Each region has five events that will conclude with a regional final, with the eight qualifiers sealing their places in the season-ending tournament.
The Japanese publisher added that the CPT will be played on Street Fighter 6, meaning this event will be the game’s competitive debut. The much-awaited title will come out on June 2, 2023, right before the CPT’s purported start date.
