Dendi still got it – what’s interesting about D2CL Season 5 viewership statistics?
When it comes to the Dota 2 esports scene, Danil Dendi Ishutin is a rather unique case. He may be teaming up with unknown players, and the performance of B8 may leave much to be desired, but the team still gathers thousands of viewers and exceeds all other tier-2/3 teams in terms of the audience – at least in the CIS. Esports Charts provides an overview of D2CL Season 5.
D2CL results and statistics
Dota 2 Champions League Season 5 has become one of the largest Dota tournaments during the interval between The International 10 and the new season of Dota Pro Circuit. The competition included HellRaisers, Team Empire, and eight other teams as participants. Funny enough, some of them were signed by the organizations during the course of the tournament (for example, the Winstrike Team signed NoMarci, while the Creepwave mix started performing under the Entity tag).

The prize fund of the online tournament was $50K, half of which went to the winners – the HellRaisers team. The top four also included Entity, team HYDRA from Kyrgyzstan and Team Empire.

The group stage of the championship used the round-robin system, which was the reason for the long duration of the event. In total, the games of the competition were on air for almost 170 hours and during this time they amassed more than 2.34M Hours Watched and 13.8K Average Viewers.
The performance of Dendi’s B8 was a complete disaster: they lost nine matches out of nine. But this did not prevent the team from making it into the top 3 most popular matches of the event – versus HYDRA, Nemiga, and NoMarci. The match with the latter became the most popular in the tournament, being followed by more than 41K Peak Viewers.
Most popular teams of D2CL Season 5
It is not hard to guess that B8 became the tournament’s most popular team. Its games attracted 18.3K Average Viewers. This is 10% more than the Average Viewers indicator of NoMarci – a runner-up by the metric. It should be noted that B8 has participated in the last three seasons of the Dota 2 Champions League, and each time it was the leader by Average Viewers among all participants.

Taking the 3-4th spots in terms of the Average Viewers were the competition’s finalists – Entity and HellRaisers with 15.7K and 15.3K Average Viewers, respectively. The top 5 was closed by Nemiga with 14.4K Average Viewers.
Leaders in terms of the Total Hours Watched were the finalists of the event since they played the most matches. The first place went to HR with 641K Hours Watched.
Platforms and languages
Official Russian-language broadcasts of the championship were conducted by RuHub, and the English coverage was done by the Beyond the Summit studio. In addition, the community streamers were also allowed to cover the event. One of them was Yaroslav NS Kuznetsov, the most watched community streamer of TI10.
More than 81% of the Total Hours Watched was conducted by the audience of RU streams, while the viewers of English-language broadcasts contributed 18% of the total. Both YouTube and Facebook were among the streaming platforms of the event, but their contribution to the Total Hours Watched was negligible, as 96.8% of the total amount came from Twitch.
D2CL and BTS Pro Series Comparison
In addition to the Dota 2 Champions League, the short interval between TI10 and the start of DPC 2021/2022 also contained two BTS Pro Series events. Both of them had comparable prize pools and roughly equally strong teams. One of these events was hosted for teams from America, while the other one had teams from Southeast Asia.

D2CL Season 5 was more successful in terms of Total Hours Watched than the two Beyond the Summit championships. But one should keep in mind that this was achieved primarily due to the large airtime (47% more than the BTS competition for Asian teams). D2CL Season 5 also surpassed BTS Series Season 9 in terms of Peak Viewers, while being only slightly behind the Asian division in terms of Average Viewers.
Additionally, B8 turned out to be the second most popular team in terms of Average Viewers among the participants in three tournaments. Dendi’s team was only bypassed by the Singaporean roster of Nigma Galaxy SEA, which was followed by 19.1K viewers during the ninth season.
The matches of the first division of the DPC EEU 2021/22 started on December 2. The best teams from the CIS, including Team Spirit, NAVI, and Virtus.pro are competing for slots in the first Major of the season.
