Viewership overview of ESL Pro League Season 14 – the most popular EPL tournament
September 12th marked the end of ESL Pro League Season 14, a CS:GO tournament with a prize pool of $750K. Natus Vincere became the champions of the tournament and was awarded $195K for this victory. The CIS-based team triumphed over Team Vitality with a score of 3:1 in the finals of the event.
Along with the victory at ESL Pro League Season 14, the team received the Intel Grand Slam Award, which is awarded for attaining four victories at international events from ESL and DreamHack Masters within a single season. For this, the team will be awarded an extra $1M.

The championship was followed by 758K Peak Viewers during the grand finals, making EPL 14 the most-watched event in the series. The previous record was held by ESL Pro League 12 with 568.4K Peak Viewers.
In addition to the final match itself, the top 5 most popular encounters of ESL Pro League Season 14 in terms of the Peak Viewers included such pairings as Heroic — NAVI (416.8K), Heroic — Team Liquid (324K), FaZe Clan — NAVI (310.6K) and Fnatic — Team Liquid (265.7K).

NAVI became the most popular team of ESL Pro League Season 14, leaving the rest of the tournament participants far behind in terms of viewership. The team’s matches were watched by 268K Average Viewers and the team also collected 7.6M Hours Watched – which is 25% of the championship’s total Hours Watched.
Team Vitality took second place in the ranking, generating 5.7M Hours Watched (19.4% of the total amount). The matches of the French team attracted 196.2K Average Viewers.
The third and fourth spots were taken by Team Liquid and Heroic, which contributed 4.1M and 3.7M Hours Watched to the ESL Pro League Season 14, respectively – amounting to 13.8% and 12.4% of the total Hours Watched.
Closing the tournament’s top 5 most popular teams was another team from the CIS – Gambit Esports. The roster collected 2.6M Hours Watched (8.7% of the championship’s total Hours Watched), and its matches were watched by 149.4K Average Viewers.
It is noteworthy that the Peak Viewers mark of the ESL Pro League Season 14 was reached thanks to the Russian-speaking audience. During the tournament’s final match between NAVI and Team Vitality, the Russian-language broadcasts were followed by 313.1K viewers – as opposed to 303.8K viewers on the English-language streams.

Despite a large number of popular participants, ESL Pro League Season 14 was unable to exceed the Hours Watched indicator of the previous season. The tournament’s total viewing time was 8% lower, with 2.4% fewer Average Viewers. EPL 14 surpassed its predecessor only in terms of Peak Viewers, collecting 71.9% more.
ESL Pro League Season 14 also surpassed the European division EPL 12 in terms of viewership. The twelfth tournament of the season in this region collected 27.4 M Hours Watched (7.7% less) and 568K Peak Viewers (25% less). The event’s matches were spectated by 121.2K Average Viewers (9.5% less).
Our comparison didn’t take other divisions of ESL Pro League Season 12 into account given that their statistics were significantly behind the EPL 14. For example, the North American team matches brought the tournament 4.2M Hours Watched, whereas the South American team matches amounted to merely 953K!

The next major CS:GO tournament will be IEM Fall 2021 — the final event of the RMR season, which will be held in a LAN format. It will feature the prize pool of $250K, as well as ESL Pro Tour points required to qualify for the Stockholm Major.
