ESL Pro League Season 21: Record-breaking group stage viewership & new regional milestone
ESL Pro League Season 21 is a new era for the historic esports circuit. With Valve’s new rulings on tournament invitations, the Pro League format has been overhauled, reducing the number of invited teams and introducing a more open qualification process. The new format has been a smash hit in terms of viewership, with Season 21 recording the strongest group stage peak viewership of any ESL Pro League (EPL) season ever.
The new format of the event sees the group stage split into two parts. Stage 1 features 16 lower-ranked teams battling for a top 8 spot to advance to the second stage, where the top 8 of this stage then move on to playoffs. Due to higher-ranked teams advancing directly to Stage 2, we expected viewership to rise significantly, and it has.
ESL Pro League Season 21 Group Stage viewership

Throughout both Stage 1 and 2, the EPL Season 21 reached over 19.37M Hours Watched. While a respectable result, the event’s peak and average viewerships are its prime metrics. Season 21’s group stages recorded 178.4K Average Viewers, more than any other EPL tournament ever. This is doubly impressive as the playoffs stage for EPL events usually receive far higher Average Viewers than its group stages.
During Stage 2, the EPL hosted two significant matches with only a 30-minute gap between their start times: G2 Esports vs NAVI, and Team Falcons vs FURIA. During these two games, the tournament was able to cumulatively reach over 550,000 Peak Viewers (PV).
What made these two matches an ideal combo for viewership? These two matches combined three of Counter-Strike’s largest demographics: Brazilian fans, Russian-speaking viewers, and an international English-language audience. The match-up of G2’s Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov against NAVI was sure to reach a massive Russian-speaking and Ukrainian audience, and for FURIA, Brazilian teams always enjoy high viewership when Alexandre “Gaules” Borba co-streams. The Brazilian streamer was massively popular this event, as usual, with over 133,000 PV split across YouTube and Twitch.
Aside from these top three, other regional demographics also recorded strong results for the early stages. Mongolian viewership reached a new esports record during their local heroes’ game against Team Spirit, almost 72K PV, and with The MongolZ qualified for playoffs, this region could continue to push and push. Turkish audiences also recorded strong showings, with Eternal Fire continuing their run of success in 2025.
Thanks to the massive followings of each of these teams and various co-streamers, the EPL was able to set a new group stage viewership record, vastly outperforming other group stage results of the circuit. In fact, the PV result of Season 21's groups was strong enough to rival the playoff stages of previous EPL seasons.

Even only counting the group stage of the tournament, the ESL Pro League Season 21 was one of the most popular EPL tournaments ever. Considering the teams which are in attendance of playoffs, Season 21 has a very real chance of becoming the second season in-a-row to set a new EPL viewership record.

The same can be said for NAVI’s game against The MongolZ, where Mongolian viewership could push its limits once again.
The final stage of EPL Season 21 is lining up to not only break EPL viewership records, but push the limits of esports broadcasting. In an ideal situation, we could see a grand final between NAVI and Team Spirit, which could finally push the pro league closer towards a million concurrent viewers.
