LCS 2022 Lock In: Viewership Stats and Tournament Results

Jan 31, 2022 2 min read

Similarly to last year, the new season of the League Championship Series (LCS) kicked off with the LCS Lock-In 2022 pre-season tournament, which featured all ten LCS franchised teams battling for $150,000 in prize money for the winners.

All ten participating LCS teams competed with varying degrees of their lineups due to visa issues and the ongoing global health crisis. Some, such as TSM and Golden Guardians, fielded their academy rosters for the duration of the tournament.

The competition concluded with a thrilling clash of the two most-favored teams in LCS — Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses — in a best-of-five series. In the end, Team Liquid swept EG 3:0, and despite playing with new faces in the roster, won its second consecutive LCS Lock In tournament.

LCS Lock In 2021 and 2022 comparison

Compared to the results of the inaugural LCS Lock In tournament, the viewership of this year’s event was notably lower. While this might have been partially affected by the absence of numerous players, it’s most likely the result of the continuous decline in viewership of European and North American League of Legends, present since summer 2021.

Nevertheless, the 2022 LCS Spring Split is yet to start and the viewership results of the new season will reveal more about the league’s popularity. Will the declining trend continue, or will LCS gain back its audience? Stay tuned for our viewership overview once the tournament wraps up.
