Last weekend in Houston, Texas, NRG Stadium hosted the decisive matches of LCS Spring 2022. The Top 10 teams in North America competed for $200K and a slot in Mid-Season Invitational 2022. In a new article, Esports Charts sums up the results and viewership statistics of the event.

LCS Spring 2022 Results

The group stage of the league started on February 5 and ended on March 27. In that time, the teams played 18 bo1 matches each, and Team Liquid showed the best result (14:4). Cloud9 (13:5), 100 Thieves (12:6) and Evil Geniuses (9:9) also made it to the top of the playoffs. But Golden Guardians (9:9) and FlyQuest (9:9) ended up in the losers bracket.

All of the playoffs' matches were in a bo5 format and the event itself ran for almost a month (April 2-24). Evil Geniuses started to show much more confident play after its loss to Team Liquid (2:3). First, the team defeated FlyQuest (3:1) and Cloud9 (3:0), then it took revenge on Liquid (3:0) and later crushed 100 Thieves (3:0) in the finals. It is worth mentioning that 100 Thieves is last year's LCS Summer champion.

LCS Spring 2022 is the first league tournament held in LAN format with a live audience since the pandemic began. According to the organizers, the event was attended by about 40K spectators.

The 18-year-old Kyle "Danny" Sakamaki of EG, already named the best bot lane player in North America, became the best player of the LCS Spring 2022 final stage. His teammate Jojopyun became the youngest LCS champion in the history of the discipline. This is the first champion’s title for Evil Geniuses. The team placed only 5th-6th in LCS Spring and LCS Summer last season.

LCS Spring 2022 Viewership Statistics

LCS Spring 2022 matches accumulated nearly 17.1 million Hours Watched and attracted 123.4K Average Viewers. The Peak Viewers number of 387K spectators was reached at the decisive match between 100 Thieves and Evil Geniuses.

As EG defeated its opponents rather quickly in the playoffs, it failed to become the most watched team of the event. 100 Thieves won this title by a margin of only 50K Hours Watched. It should also be noted that the leaders by Average Viewers are 100 Thieves, Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses.

Stats on the most popular teams of the event are available with PRO subscription.

LCS ranks third by Peak Viewers and fourth by Hours Watched compared to other last spring leagues. LCK ranks first by each of these metrics, and LEC is in second place.

Compared to the previous year's Summer Split, LCS Spring 2022's Hours Watched number dropped by more than 30%, while Peak and Average Viewers number remained almost unchanged. At the same time, the tournament falls far behind LCS Summer 2020, the most successful event in the series by all metrics.

Evil Geniuses became the last participant in Mid-Season Invitational 2022 and joined G2 Esports and ORDER in the group. To qualify for the next stage, the team has to avoid finishing in last place. The first international championship is scheduled for May 10-29, the prize pool of which is $250.
