How did new LVP Superliga season start without main KOI and Heretics rosters?

LVP Superliga Spring 2023, one of the most popular regional leagues in Europe, started on January 16. In the new article, Esports Charts will tell you how many viewers have already begun to follow the event, and why the statistics of the first days of the spring split turned out to be much more modest than they were last year.

As part of the LVP Superliga Spring, ten Spanish teams compete for €20K and two slots at the EMEA Masters Spring, which starts in April. As part of the upcoming tournament, 28 European teams will compete for a share of €150K.

During the year, the Spanish regional league has seen quite important changes. The KOI and Heretics academies replaced the main rosters of the clubs which moved to the LEC. G2 Arctic disbanded its roster in September 2022 and Guasones Team took its place in the league. In addition, the format of the LVP Superliga Group Stage has been reduced from nine to eight weeks, while the total number of games has remained the same. As a result, the first and seventh weeks will see 15 games each, not 10 like in the others.

Viewership statistics

In total, over three game days, LVP Superliga Spring 2023 generated almost 622.6K Hours Watched and attracted 34.6K Average Viewers. The most popular match was the confrontation between UCAM Esports Club and KOI Academy, gathering more than 113K Peak Viewers.

Like last year, the most watched channel of event's coverage was the official channel LVPes, which broadcast all the matches. Following it were once again ibai, who covered only KOI.A matches, and Werlyb, who streamed only Team Heretics Academy matches.

The main rosters of these organizations now play in the LEC, and the academies, as a rule, are no longer so interesting to the audience. In many respects, it is precisely because of this that the starting statistics of LVP Superliga Spring 2023 turned out to be noticeably worse than the results of last year's event.

Compared to the LVP Superliga Spring 2022, the numbers of Peak Viewers and Average Viewers on the first days of the league decreased by 42.4% and 31.9%, respectively. At the same time, Hours Watched increased by 9.8%, but only due to an additional game day. It should be noted that a significant drop in key indicators equally affected all the channels mentioned above.

At the same time, it is ibai that has the greatest impact on the statistics of the LVP Superliga Spring 2023. In short, if KOI Academy does not make it to the playoffs, then the number of tournament viewers may drop significantly. It should be reminded that last year KOI was eliminated in the second round of the lower bracket of the playoffs, after which the number of the event’s Average Viewers dropped by more than half.

Considering that the main rosters of KOI and Heretics promoted to LEC, the drop in viewership statistics of the Spanish league is not surprising. That being said, the tournament is still quite popular thanks to the participation of the academies of these clubs. Considering the changes described above, it will be extremely interesting to watch LEC Winter 2023 with an updated list of participants. The tournament starts on January 21st.
