M4 World Championship in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang kicked off on January 1 in Jakarta, featuring the best teams of the 2022 competitive season. Esports Charts, the tournament's analytical partner, sums up the results of the Group Stage and shows how many viewers watched the broadcasts right after the New Year holidays.

Teams in the M4 World Championship Group Stage competed for seeding in the playoffs bracket. The top two teams in each group made it to the upper bracket, while the rest of the participants ended up in the lower bracket. The performance of the Falcon Esports team from Myanmar was the biggest surprise so far. It took first place in Group A, where the reigning world champion Blacklist International also played.

Viewership Statistics

M4 World Championship Group Stage matches accumulated 14.2 million Hours Watched and drew 482.1K Average Viewers. The tournament saw its Peak Viewers number of 1.7 million people at the match between RRQ Hoshi and ECHO in Group C. It should be noted that this was not the only match that gathered over a million fans at a time in front of the screens.

Indonesian became the most popular language of the Group Stage broadcasts, accounting for more than 55% of the HW total, reaching nearly 1.3 million. English and Tagalog are also in the Top 3. When it comes to platforms, YouTube accounted for an overwhelming 71,9% of the total HW.

Comparison with the previous World Championship

Comparing the Group Stage of M4 World Championship with the same stage at M3 World Championship, the number of HW at the 2022 tournament increased by 14%. This was owed to the growth of the AV number at the broadcasts (+6%), as well as a slightly longer duration of the tournament itself (+1.5 hours). At the same time, the PV number at the 2021 Championship was slightly higher, reaching 1.73 million viewers.

Another important indicator is the increase in viewership on the English and Tagalog broadcasts. Compared with the last tournament, both languages saw a 25-30% increase in the AV number. At the same time, the pool of languages in which the tournament was broadcast, expanded, as well as the total number of channels that covered the championship more than doubled.

The Playoffs are scheduled for January 7-15. You can follow the tournament on our tournament page. Usually, the viewership metrics grow several times at the decisive matches. For example, the most popular game of M3 World Championship was watched by more than 3.1 million Peak Viewers.
