MPL Indonesia Season 14 entered the top 10 most-watched esports tournaments with record-breaking viewership
The MPL Indonesia Season 14 finished yesterday on October 27, with the event signing off with one of the most-watched grand finals in esports history. The final map of the event was watched by almost 4 million concurrent viewers and set viewership records for languages, platforms, and the MPL event series. Esports Charts presents viewership data for the MPL ID S14, and contextualises its achievements in both the MPL series, as well as the general esports industry.
Coming into the 14th iteration of the MPL ID, Team Liquid Aura (otherwise known as Team Liquid Indonesia) was the team to watch. Team Liquid acquired STUN.GG earlier this year, who owned MLBB esports teams AURA Esports and ECHO. Both of these names are legendary competitors in the MLBB esports scene, and Team Liquid has helped bring them back to the forefront of MLBB esports.
After acquiring STUN.GG, Team Liquid replaced AURA FIRE, taking both their players and their MPL Indonesia spot. Season 13 was the first appearance of Team Liquid Aura, but the organization needed a season to get itself together. Coming into S14, the team picked up new players and emerged as a favourite to win the whole thing. Their grand final match against highly popular and competitive opponent RRQ Hoshi gave MLBB one of the most exciting final matches the MPL has ever seen.

Throughout the S14 group stage, Team Liquid Aura struggled against RRQ Hoshi. They finished the group stage in second place behind them, but with a 0-2 record against the RRQ squad. Coming into playoffs, RRQ Hoshi defeated Team Liquid Aura Upper Bracket Final, but TLID was able to easily win the Lower Bracket Final, and advance to the finals with revenge in sight.
RRQ Hoshi and Team Liquid Aura’s grand final went to the final map of the best-of-seven, with both teams trading wins back and forth throughout the series. After a hard-fought victory on Map 6, Team Liquid Aura were able to build up momentum and roll through RRQ Hoshi in the final map. While Team Liquid Aura’s explosive entrance to the MLBB scene drummed up some serious excitement for the final, RRQ Hoshi fans were left disappointed: Season 14 marked a return to top form for the team which hasn’t claimed an MPL ID championship in more than two years.
Highlights of the MPL Indonesia Season 14 finals, featuring RRQ Hoshi and Team Liquid AURA
Team Liquid Aura’s exciting finals against RRQ Hoshi helped the MPL ID S14 to reach 3.99M Peak Viewers, setting a new series record for the MPL. It also reached 117.36M Hours Watched, another series record, and maintained 511.6K Average Viewers, falling just a couple of thousand viewers short of another series record.
Not only was the MPL Indonesia 14 highly-watched in terms of MPL viewership, but it was also one of the most-watched esports events ever. Excluding the world-famous League of Legends World Championship series, the MPL ID Season 14 became the most-watched esports event ever.
The event not only set a record for the highest Indonesian-speaking peak viewership at 3.7M PV, but it also set a new esports broadcasting record for TikTok. The video and livestreaming platform has been picking up speed within Asia, especially among mobile gaming audiences, and S14 of the MPL ID marked a significant step forward for TikTok in esports.
Considering the event set a new platform record for TikTok, it would be reasonable to think that other livestreaming platforms saw their viewership drop for the event. However, the official MPL Indonesia YouTube channel also set a new personal Peak Viewers record during the finals, with the finals even more popular than the grand final of the previous world championship for MLBB, the M5. The MPL Indonesia’s growth is strong enough to set multiple esports industry records simultaneously, spread across multiple livestreaming platforms.

Most popular esports tournaments by Hours Watched & Peak Viewers
In terms of the overall MLBB esports scene, the MPL Indonesia Season 14 was the most popular MPL event ever, and the third-most popular MLBB esports tournament. The event fell only second to the M5 and M4 World Championships, which recorded significant peak viewership thanks to combining powerful regional audiences for MLBB, such as the Philippines and Indonesia.
2024 has been an extremely strong year for MLBB esports; the esports title has recorded new viewership records for various regional events throughout the year so far, and with the M6 World Championship planned for this Winter, the esports title could set a new viewership record for itself, and potentially even begin to rival the League of Legends World Championship series.

With the results of Season 14 of the MPL ID, both Team Liquid Aura and RRQ Hoshi have qualified for the M6. The team’s will face off against the best MLBB teams from around the globe, and the possibility of a rematch could drive peak viewership to heights the world championship series for MLBB hasn’t seen before. Combining international viewership is crucial for high peaks at these season-ending esports events, but considering the raw popularity of Indonesian audiences in MLBB, hosting a match between them on an international stage could be enough to set a new peak viewership record for MLBB.
The M6 World Championship begins on November 21 later this year. Esports Charts will track viewership throughout the event, and our tournament page for the event will live update with viewership statistics for matches as they finish up. Keep an eye on the M6, with MLBB growing across the globe in some crucial regions, this could be one of esports’ most-watched events ever.
