MPL Malaysia Season 11 sets league viewership record

MPL Malaysia Season 11 sets league viewership record

May 03, 2023 3 min read

The MPL Spring Season has come to an end in Malaysia, following Indonesia. The domestic league has set new records in all viewership metrics, largely because of the fact that one of the teams was joined by an e-athlete from Indonesia. Esports Charts sums up MPL Malaysia Season 11.

Season 11 took place from March 10 to April 30, and the matches were hosted by the Stadium Juara in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. TODAK undisputedly became the strongest team in the league, beating Team SMG 4-0 in the final. TODAK has been in the league finals since Season 6 (held in 2020), and this is its third league title.

The league accumulated over 6.3 million Hours Watched (a new record), despite the fact that due to changes in the format, Season 11 was on air 61 hours fewer than Season 10. The broadcast reached more than 42.6K Average Viewers.

It is interesting that the Grand Final of the league became only the third most popular game of the tournament, reaching 255K Peak Viewers. MLBB fans showed more interest in HomeBois' games, as its two games drew the largest audiences. A new league record was set during the upper bracket final, when HomeBois played against TODAK: that game attracted 288K PV.

MPL Malaysia Season 11 Most Popular Teams

For the first time in a long time, HomeBois replaced TODAK as the most popular team of the league. This happened because the matches of this team were actively followed by Indonesian MLBB fans because in January 2023 roamer Barbossa joined the team under a lease contract from Bigetron Beta.

YouTube became the main broadcasting platform for the event. With the increased activity of Indonesian fans, the statistics of the platform improved compared to Season 10. The total number of Hours Watched on the Malaysian broadcasts increased by 26%, and the Indonesian broadcasts increased by an incredible 1670%.

MPL Malaysia's statistics have grown steadily from season to season, which once again shows that Malaysia is one of the fastest-growing markets for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Bang. Moreover, the statistics of the new season were not affected by the shortened Group Stage, and the presence of Indonesian representatives significantly increased the league's coverage.

The last MPL Spring Splits are scheduled to end by mid-May. On May 7, we will find out the champion of the Philippines & Brazil, and on May 13, the winner of the MENA region will be determined. Read more about the Mobile Legends esports viewership statistics here.
