MPL Malaysia Season 14 continued growth and set a new esports record for Malaysian viewership

The MPL Malaysia Season 14 recently finished up, and it has continued its long-standing trend of increasing its peak viewership season-on-season. The circuit is the forefront esports series for Malaysia, and as the Southeast Asian esports industry continues to develop, the MPL Malaysia continues to grow. Thanks to Season 14 of the circuit, Bahasa Malaysia just set a new esports record for peak viewership.

Similar to the MPL Indonesia, another new team rose to the top of competition in the Malaysian scene. Team Vamos was established earlier this year by Faris “Soloz” Zakaria, a Malaysian professional player who has taken a step back from competition, instead setting himself up as a content creator and public figure for the team. Soloz is one of Malaysia’s most popular internet celebrities, with over 1.8M Subscribers on YouTube and 2.6M Followers on Facebook.

Team Vamos acquired many players from HomeBois, the organization which previously fielded Soloz as a player. Soloz knows these players well, and under his new banner, the team has found great success. The team was immediately competitive throughout the season, and went toe-to-toe with Selangor Red Giants, current MSC champions and one of the world’s best MLBB teams, throughout the group stage.

In total, Season 14 of the MPL MY accumulated 13.14M Hours Watched, a new series record for the Malaysian circuit. The peak viewership of 812.9K Peak Viewers not only represents a new series record for the MPL Malaysia, but caused a brand-new esports world record for Bahasa Malaysian streams at 636.2K PV. As the MPL Malaysia continues to grow and find more fans within the country, the overall esports industry in the country grows alongside the circuit.

MPL Malaysia Season 14 Viewership Statistics

The peak viewership for the tournament was reached during the grand final between Team Vamos and the Selangor Red Giants. Ultimately, the Red Giants were able to clinch a 4-2 victory in the finals, with their wealth of experience helping them to defeat the newcomers to the league. Nevertheless, competition in the MPL Malaysia is looking strong, and fans are already excitingly looking forward to the Season 15.

TODAK's matches were also highly popular, especially those against the Red Giants. TODAK are a historic MLBB esports team, with three MPL MY championships, four runner-up results in the MPL MY, and even a 3rd place at the inaugural M1 World Championship. Over the years, TODAK have built up a solid fanbase for themselves in Malaysia, and their multiple playoffs matches against the Red Giants received many more viewers than other playoffs games, excluding the ultimate finals.

Each season, the MPL Malaysia continues to improve its viewership, finding new fans and viewers within Malaysia. The viewership for the circuit comes almost entirely from within Malaysia, with the league being proudly supported by its passionate community of ML:BB fans. 

Next up on the MLBB calendar is the M6 World Championship, which begins on November 21. This year, the world championship returns to Malaysia, and the esports landscape in the country has never been better suited to host such a legendary event. This will also be the first MLBB world championship to host a $1,000,000 prize pool, with organizers Moonton clearly fostering high hopes for the upcoming event.
