Mid-Season Invitational 2023 on its way to setting peak viewership record in series

Mid-Season Invitational 2023 on its way to setting peak viewership record in series

May 15, 2023 3 min read

The Mid-Season Invitational 2023 has reached the finish line. There are just six games left to determine the winner. Esports Charts has summed up the intermediate results of the League of Legends championship, which games take place at the Copper Box Arena in London. The tournament has already reached the second-highest Peak Viewers number in the history of the series, all thanks to the Korean derby between T1 and Gen.G.

After the Play-In Stage, the eight strongest teams were determined and continued to fight in the Bracket Stage. The first stage of the double-elimination bracket passed without surprises, with all favorites soundly defeating their opponents, and three of the four matches ended 3-0. Only G2 Esports managed to win one map against Gen.G, but the European team did not have enough strength to gain more victories.

The second round of the playoffs was more interesting and offered the audience several rivalries. The most intense battle was between T1 and Gen.G the archrivals in the LCK had a great series of five maps, with Faker's team coming out victorious. The other game to watch was the one between two LPL teams, BiliBili Gaming and JD Gaming. The latter won confidently, defeating its opponent by a landslide.

In the first round of the lower bracket, two more derby matches between LEC and LCK participants were played: G2 Esports crushed MAD Lions 3-0 and Cloud9 confidently defeated Golden Guardians 3-1. As a result, six teams from four regions have continued to compete in the tournament.

It's too early to summarize viewership totals yet, however, the tournament is already the second-highest in the history of the series in terms of Peak Viewers, with over 1.9 million PV watching the game between T1 and Gen.G. Second place among the most popular matches goes the game between T1 and MAD Lions as it reached 1.4 million Peak Viewers.

The Mid-Season Invitational 2023 has seen 680.6K Average Viewers so far, which is the second-highest result of all the tournaments in the series (behind MSI 2021). If the average viewership number does not drop, MSI 2023 might accumulate more Hours Watched than MSI 2022.

As for Peak Viewers, MSI 2023 can still easily set a record in the series. The most popular teams from South Korea are still in the fight, and, perhaps, the best scenario for the tournament in terms of statistics will be if T1 and G2 Esports reach the final: in this case a gigantic audience at the decisive match is simply inevitable.

It should be recalled that the Peak Viewers number at last year's Mid-Season Invitational 2022 almost reached the 2.2 million mark. The record was then set during the match between T1 and RNG.

The Mid-Season Invitational 2023 takes place from May 2 to 21 in London. The prize pool for the tournament is $250K. You can follow the event on the coverage page.
