PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 peaks at 539,000 viewers on organizer's return to tier-one events
Having gotten off to a solid start thanks to strong viewership results in the Group Stage, PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 maintained that run until its conclusion on February 23. While not breaking records, it was a solid return to non-Major action for the prominent tournament organizer.
Although it featured 16 of the best teams in Counter-Strike, per the Valve Ranking System, PGL's first tier-one standalone event since 2015 didn't feature all the top esports organizations. The likes of G2 Esports, Team Vitality, NAVI and Team Spirit were absent, which no doubt affected the audience reach as these sides boast some of the game's most passionate and active fans.

Nevertheless, after around ten days of action across multiple venues in Romania, MOUZ beat Team Falcons 3:1 to clinch the title of PGL’s first tournament of the year. This Grand Finals clash also emerged as the competition's most popular, touching almost 540,000 Peak Viewers (PV).
It was the German side's first trophy after signing in-game leader (IGL) Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin permanently from Ninjas in Pyjamas. What also made a huge difference to the roster was the first-time inclusion of Lotan "Spinx" Giladi, with the former Team Vitality lurker's plays proving how crucial big-match experience can be.
PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 — basic viewership statistics and most popular matches
PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 also notched over 16.47 million Hours Watched (HW) and 203,150 Average Viewers over 81 hours of airtime. This put it among the Romanian organizer's most-watched competitions in the game and the top one when not counting Majors.
Unfortunately for this Counter-Strike event, the late invitation of the ever-improving Imperial Valkyries to replace FURIA Esports could not attract higher viewership. The all-female squad, through its consistent displays, had been an audience favourite reach at previous events, but its last-place finish undoubtedly saw a segment of viewers lose interest in proceedings early on.

In terms of Counter-Strike events, the PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 understandably didn't match the numbers of legacy competitions like IEM Katowice 2025 . However, it did get the organizer's return to regular tournaments off to a solid start and showed that viewership for such events could improve with more regular involvement of all the top teams.
Moreover, the return of the Third Place Match, which ended as the second-most popular game, seemed to suggest that fans prefer matches with some stakes or jeopardy involved. They might become more of a norm, maybe at the expense of showmatches, but the potential to keep viewers interested for another encounter with ramifications on the final day of action has emerged as a sound idea.
Sticking with competition comparisons, the PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 has ended among the six most popular events hosted by the renowned organizer. It also finished as the third-most-popular Counter-Strike tournament held so far this year.
With PGL's first tournament now out of the way, the focus will turn to the next prominent event, with 2025 stacked to the brim with competitions from a variety of organizers.
