Japan’s REJECT creates history at PUBG Mobile Global Open 2024’s debut
PUBG Mobile Global Open 2024, held from March 28 to April 7 in São Paulo, was the first international event of the 2024 PUBG Mobile competitive season and emerged as the game's most popular competition so far this year.
In doing so, it performed much better than all but the three main PUBG Mobile tournaments and the 32nd SEA Games from last year. It also saw the winners create a record and take home a massive chunk of the overall prize pool of $500,000.
PUBG Mobile Global Open 2024 saw REJECT top the final standings with 157 points, including two wins, 63 placement points, and 94 eliminations. In the process of its historic win, it became the first Japanese side to clinch an international trophy in the title's lengthy esports history.

Such was its dominance during this milestone that it eventually eased to an 18-point lead over the next-best team after 18 rounds. REJECT took home $100,000 for its astonishing run and the MVP award via Reiji, who had 34 eliminations during the Main Event.
Meanwhile, runner-up Alpha7 Esports pocketed $50,000, giving home fans something to cheer about. Interestingly, the side had more wins (three) than the tournament winner and enjoyed a dominant first day but could not put in a consistent enough run across the three days of the final stage.

The PUBG Mobile Global Open 2024 recorded 513.6K Peak Viewers during Round 15 on Day 3 of the Main Event. This was when Thailand's Vampire Esports, the PUBG Mobile World Invitational 2023 winner, clinched its third win in the Main Event, the join-most alongside Alpha7 Esports.
The performances and presence of Vampire Esports were crucial to this event also notching 5.6M Hours Watched and 154.4K Average Viewers over 37 hours of airtime, as Thai comfortably emerged as the leading language among the official broadcasts. Another region that showed its continued importance to the game and its competitive segment was Nepal, as its official language emerged second in terms of watch time despite no team representing it at the tournament.
Not surprisingly, the live broadcasts of this event on Facebook Gaming attracted the most attention, outperforming YouTube by watch time and peak viewership. TikTok in third completed a podium that proved two things: Facebook remains integral to the esports live-streaming exercise, especially in Asia, and the video-sharing app continues to stake a claim to becoming one of the future leaders in this space on handheld devices.
Coming to comparisons, the PUBG Mobile Global Open 2024 overtook the PUBG Mobile Super League - Southeast Asia Spring 2024 to become the discipline's most popular competition in 2024. This also made it one of the ten most popular events with a prize pool of $50,000 and below.

Moreover, it overtook all PUBG Mobile tournaments held in 2023 apart from the two global championships and the PMWI 2024. Considering this was its maiden outing, these are some great stats and numbers that prove that the game remains one of the most followed globally in the mobile battle royale genre.
With the season off to a flier, fans will only expect more intensely enjoyable action from the upcoming tournaments. With Tencent now conducting three international competitions and adding smaller events to the calendar, there's lots for them to sink their teeth into as we move into the crucial summer period.
