Arena of Valor esports scene changes; AoV Premier League qualifiers results

Oct 10, 2022 5 min read

Arena of Valor esports scene has gone through some massive changes in the last couple of months. The Arena of Valor Premier League 2022 was supposed to serve as a replacement for the World Cup, but it was later announced that the World Cup event had rebranded into Honor of Kings International Championship, which will now serve as the official World Series for the game moving forward. It will have a record-breaking prize pool for mobile esports of $10 million and will take place in China and South Korea. Arena of Valor Premier League 2022 is now a non-world championship event, and in the future, Garena will only operate regional events, with the World Series now being hosted by Level Infinite / VSPN.

Arena of Valor Premier League 2022 is now an event for only SEA teams, and it will take place from the 16th of November to the 11th of December, in Vietnam, more precisely in the city of Ho Chi Minh City. Despite no longer being the World Cup substitute, the event still has a big prize pool of $1 million.

Twelve teams will attend the tournament, with the squads coming from Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia. Each country will have three representatives, and teams from the same country can’t be drawn into the same group. The four league champions will also be drawn into separate groups. As usual, the tournament will have a group stage and a playoff stage, with the last team standing becoming the winner, and taking home $400K.

PV and HW comparison between the four qualifiers for Arena of Valor Premier League 2022

To qualify for the Arena of Valor Premier League 2022, teams had to place top three in the league from their respective countries. From the Vietnam league, V Gaming, Saigon Phantom, and Box Gaming were the ones that qualified. From Taiwan, Flash Wolves, MAD Team, and Bikertopia Esports are the participants that will represent their country in the event. When it comes to Thailand, the three squads that earned the right to compete at the Arena of Valor Premier League 2022 are Talon Esports, Bacon Time, and Buriram United Esports. Last but not least, Dewa United, ArchAngel, and DG Esports carry the hopes and dreams of Indonesian fans.

Arena of Glory Winter 2022, the Vietnamese league, was by far the most popular qualifier for the event. Viewers watched the tournament for 26 million hours, and it had 644K Peak Viewers, setting a new record in both metrics for the Arena of Glory event series. Another qualifier that also had good viewership numbers was the RoV Pro League 2022 Winter, Thailand league, which viewers watched for 11 million hours, a new record in the event series, and had 176K Peak Viewers, making them the third most popular tournament of the RoV Pro League series.

The remaining qualifiers weren't able to reach such a big audience, with the Garena Challenger Series Summer 2022, Taiwan league, viewers only watching the event for 2 million hours, and peaking at 55K, very far from breaking the series viewership records of both metrics. But, the AoV Star League Winter 2022 had even worse viewership numbers. With only 150K Hours Watched and 4.8K Peak Viewers, it’s clear that the league is very far from the other three.

It’s no surprise that the most popular games of these qualifiers happened in the Arena of Glory Winter 2022 tournament. V Gaming was the most watched team of the qualifiers, with viewers watching their games for a total of 9.6 million hours. They are also present in four of the most popular matches of the Arena of Glory Winter 2022 event, and all the qualifiers. 644K viewers came together to watch the record-breaking grand finals between V Gaming and Saigon Phantom, where the last took the win. The remaining four games you can see on the list were all able to surpass the 300K PV mark, something no other game from the remaining three qualifiers was able to do.

RoV Pro League 2022 Winter was the second most popular qualifier, but their games weren't able to reach the astonishing viewership numbers the Arena of Glory Winter 2022 matches were. As we can see the most popular game was the grand final between Bacon Time and Buriram United Esports, which brought together 176K viewers. It’s a solid number, but nowhere near the 644K PV of the Vietnamese league. No one of these games could make it to the top five most popular matches of the Arena of Glory Winter 2022, which highlights, even more, how popular the Arena of Glory Winter 2022 tournament was.

The teams will now battle it out to see who is the superior region and will entertain thousands of fans in the process. With the viewership numbers from these qualifiers being very good, we expect the tournament to be able to reach a big audience, and perhaps even break some viewership records.
