Moist Esports vs. G1 match becomes the most popular in the Wildcard stage at RLCS 2022-23 - World Championship
From August 3 to 13, the RLCS 2022-23 - World Championship, the final Rocket League tournament in the current season, is taking place in Düsseldorf. Recently, participants completed the Wildcard stage, which had slightly fewer viewers than last year's championship. However, there are several objective reasons for this.
The current Rocket League World Championship is being held in the traditional format and consists of three stages: Wildcard, Group Stage, and Playoff. Tournament participants were determined based on regional rankings: the top eight teams in the world received direct invitations to the Group Stage, while sixteen teams started playing from the Wildcard stage.
Eight teams made it to the Group Stage Wildcard: G2 Esports, Team Falcons, KRU Esports, Spacestation Gaming, Complexity Gaming, Moist Esports, Twisted Minds, and Team Secret. All media participants continue to battle, meaning the tournament still has a good chance of breaking viewership records in the discipline.
Wildcard Stage на RLCS 2022-23 - World Championship Viewership Statistics

Wildcard matches accumulated 2.6 million Hours Watched. The Average Viewers number on broadcasts was 101.7K, while the Peak Viewers number reached 142.8K people. The most popular matchup of the stage was the elimination match between Moist Esports and G1. It is worth noting that this game was commentated by Cr1tikal, a popular American streamer and co-owner of the Moist club.
When comparing the key metrics of the Wildcard at the RLCS 2022-23 World Championship to last year's statistics, a slight decrease in audience reach can be observed. The Average Viewers number during broadcasts decreased by 9%, and the Peak Viewers number dropped by 28%. First and foremost, this happened because of the composition of the participants. For example, last year, the team of the French organization Karmine Corp, which is well known for its large and very loyal fan base, played in the Wildcard. Matches of Karmine Corp are regularly covered by Kamet0, a popular French streamer and co-owner of the club — thanks to his efforts, last year's Wildcard stage attracted so many viewers. This year, Karmine Corp advanced directly to the group stage and did not participate in the Wildcard.
The impact of Karmine Corp on the viewership statistics can be assessed by the fact that last year's Francophone broadcast of the Wildcard gathered over 65K PV (thanks to Kamet0's streams). This year, it only reached 17.6K PV.
If we talk about other language broadcasts, compared to last year, English viewership decreased — some viewers left to watch the Moist Cr1tikal channel, while others switched to IEM Cologne 2023 and Valorant Champions 2023. However, Spanish broadcasts saw a tenfold increase in viewership, all thanks to the streams of Sergio Aguero, the former Argentine national team player and current co-owner and streamer of KRÜ Esports. He provided coverage of his team's matches in the Wildcard stage and even flew to Germany to support the club's players.
The Group Stage of the RLCS 2022-23 - World Championship will take place from August 8 to 12. The participants have been divided into two double-elimination brackets.
