The Rainbow Six Siege world championship, Six Berlin Major 2022, ended last weekend. The best 16 teams from different parts of the world gathered on the stage of Theater am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin to fight for the champion title and $500K.

The competitors in Six Berlin Major 2022 were divided into four groups, where they played a series of round-robin matches. XSETRogueG2 EsportsFaZe Clanw7m EsportsWolves EsportsFURIA Esports and Elevate made it to the playoffs. There were some unexpected results, such as the early elimination of the Six Sweden Major 2021 silver medalist Ninjas in Pyjamas and Astralis, a team that finished second in Six Charlotte Major 2022 in May.

Rogue and FaZe Clan were the best in the final eight. The former defeated G2 Esports and XSET on its way to the finals, while the latter defeated FURIA Esports and w7m Esports. In the decisive match for the title, Rogue defeated FaZe Clan 3:2 and won $200K. The second finalist got $80K. It should be noted that FaZe Clan approached the final as the favorite, being the winner of Six Sweden Major 2021 and the bronze medalist of Six Invitational 2022. In the final best-of-5 series, FaZe Clan led twice against Rogue, but did not manage to take advantage of it.

Viewership Statistics

The Six Berlin Major 2022 matches accumulated 4.3 million Hours Watched. The tournament reached 66.4K Average Viewers and 179K Peak Viewers. The most popular match was the Grand final between FaZe and Rogue. These teams also became the most watched ones in the tournament, having approximately the same number of Hours Watched (1.66 million and 1.64 million, respectively). The teams were more than twice ahead of the other teams by this metric.

The main broadcast languages are English (82.6K Peak Viewers) and Portuguese (76.1K Peak Viewers). French and German broadcasts drew almost 10K Peak Viewers. The majority of viewers followed the matches on Twitch — 154.4K PV vs. 24.6K PV on YouTube.

The most watched and popular channel of the tournament was the main channel rainbow6, it accumulated more than 1.7 million Hours Watched and drew 75.8K Peak Viewers. In second place by audience reach was the channel of the Brazilian streamer Gaules, who covered the Six Major tournament for the first time. He had 751K Hours Watched and 50.5K Peak Viewers

Tournaments Viewership Comparison

If we compare Six Berlin Major 2022 with the last three majors held, we get a very interesting result. The Berlin tournament amassed slightly more Hours Watched than Six Charlotte Major 2022 and Six Sweden Major 2021, and also showed a similar Average Viewers result. At the same time, Six Mexico Major 2021 (the first major since the pandemic began), proved to be out of comparison in these metrics. The only metric for which the Six Berlin Major 2022 surpassed the other tournaments was the Peak Viewers number.

Why did the Peak Viewers number increase so much? One of the reasons is that the German finals saw teams from two different regions: Europe and Brazil. This attracted more viewers, who came to watch the final and cheer on the teams they were close to.

In comparison, the Six Charlotte Major 2022 final featured two US teams, which hardly drew much interest from Brazilian or European viewers. The Six Sweden Major 2021 final featured two teams from Brazil. The finalists in the Mexican tournament were from different regions (CIS and Brazil) and the Peak Viewers number there was slightly higher. If a representative of another region (where Rainbow Six Siege is more popular) had reached the finals instead of the Russian team, the number would have been much higher.

The second reason is Gaules. The most popular Portuguese-language Twitch streamer broadcast almost half of the tournament, watching the matches of the Brazilian teams. Without him, the overall metrics of the tournament would have been much lower.

Despite the fact that Six Berlin Major 2022 showed a good result by the main metrics and even slightly surpassed the previous majors, the main channel of the tournament, rainbow6 suffered drop in the Average Viewers number. According to this metric, it showed the worst result over the last five majors — 28K AV. At the same time, the tournament did not decrease by Average Viewers metric in total. This means that part of the viewers moved to the channels of the community-casters. For example, Gaules. As we mentioned: without broadcasts of the Brazilian caster and participation of the Brazilian team in the finals, the total audience coverage of the tournament would have been much lower.

Despite the fact that Six Berlin Major 2022 had the best Peak Viewers result among the majors after the pandemic, it should be noted that the results were actually higher before the pandemic: significantly higher. For example, Six Major Raleigh 2019 saw 268K Peak Viewers, while Six Major Paris 2018 saw 257K Peak Viewers.

The next big Rainbow Six Siege tournament is Six November Major 2022. It takes place from November 14 to 20 in Asia. The organizers have not yet revealed the details of the upcoming event, but we know that there will be 16 teams from five regions.
