Spanish-speaking streamers took the Twitch Rivals tournament series to the next level. On January 19-24, all of the platform's best-known creators participated in the Twitch Rivals Squidcraft Games Minecraft tournament, hosted by Komanche, one of the authors of the mod inspired by the Netflix TV series. The event set a series record for viewers on the first day, and subsequently even caused a small internet crisis in one of the European countries! Esports Charts sums up the results of the competition.

What's special about the event?

Twitch Rivals Squidcraft Games is a Minecraft tournament for streamers, which was held in a custom mode inspired by the popular TV series "The Squid Game". There were 150 participants who are the platform's most famous Spanish-speaking creators (including Ibai, Rubius and Auronplay). They competed in various mini-games over five days and were eliminated from the event one by one.

Only 24 players remained in the game before the last day of the tournament — and JuansGuarnizoelxokas & Iamcristini were among the last to survive. OllieGamerz became the winner of the event: he successfully passed all the challenges and got $100,000: the last remaining player took the whole prize pool of the tournament.

Besides its unusual format and a record number of viewers, the tournament was also quite memorable for the fact that it caused the Internet shutdown in Andorra!  Some of the event's participants live in Andorra, and on January 22 (the fourth day of the tournament), they were got DDoSed, and the servers of Andorra Telecom, the only provider in the country, crashed. As a result, the whole country (even though it's quite small) had no Internet for about an hour, and the news about it spread all over the world.

Tournament viewership statistics

On the first day, the competition attracted more than a million viewers and became the most popular in the Twitch Rivals series. The previous record was held by Twitch Rivals VALORANT Showcase for almost two years, but in the end it was broken as the new championship drew 200K more Peak Viewers.

Tournament's format implied that the number of streamers participating in the tournament was supposed to decrease each day. But eliminated participants still covered the tournament, which caused over a million Peak Viewers on each day of the game's broadcast.

Until the last day of the event, the record for the number of Peak Viewers belonged to the fifth day of broadcasts, when the SquidCraft's streams were watched by more than 1.18 million Peak Viewers. And the final day of the event attracted even more spectators as it peaked at 2.2 million viewers.

The most popular streamers of the tournament by the key metrics (total Hours Watched, Peak Viewers, Average Viewers) were auronplay, elxokas and JuansGuarnizo — and the latter two made it to the final day of the Twitch Rivals. First place by Peak Viewers went to elxokas — 1.2M Viewers, it's the third ever result on Twitch. He also was the leader by average number of concurrent viewers (220K) & Hours Watched (over 3.9 million).
