The VCS Spring 2023 concluded last weekend, with GAM Esports beating SBTC Esports 3:1 in the Grand Final to clinch the title. The tournament entered the top ten in viewership metrics among all events in this series, becoming the most successful Vietnam Championship Series tournament in two years.

With their title win, GAM Esports qualified for the Mid-Season Invitational 2023, alongside taking home a portion of the $50K prize pool. Here’s a look at the other statistical details from this Vietnamese League of Legends competition.

The VCS Spring 2023 reached 230K Peak Viewers during the summit clash between GAM Esports beating SBTC Esports. These two teams were also the most popular by watch hours and average concurrent viewership, which is no surprise since three of their matchups became the most popular games in the tournament.

The event also did 6.27M Hours Watched and 37K Average Viewers over airtime of just over 167 hours. Interestingly, the competition winner was part of three of the five most popular games, while the losing finalist appeared in all five games on the list, cementing their fame among viewers.

Viewership gap between the leaders and the rest of the teams is quite big

The event was mostly watched in Vietnamese, which accounted for almost the entire language chart. English was the only other participant, doing a paltry 1.13%. Similarly, it was YouTube that dominated the streaming platform battle, with Twitch noticing a meager 1.13% of the overall viewership pie.

When comparing the event to the previous split, the VCS Summer 2022, this year’s competition did 130% better in terms of peak concurrent users. However, it was down 2% and 4% in watch hours and average concurrent viewership, as the change of the streaming channel on YouTube from the popular Vietnam Esports TV to the official VCS channel saw a slight fall in audiences.

However, the VCS Spring 2023 was its most successful iteration in terms of PV since the VCS Spring 2021, aided by the fact that the two favorites reached the Grand Final and played each other thrice across the competition. It was also the sixth most popular tournament ever in this series and the seventh most watched one, suggesting a good start for the LoL season in the country.

The lineup for the coveted MSI 2023 is now set, as 13 teams from the various regional leagues have sealed their berths. Eight of these sides will do battle in the Play-In to grab the three available Playoffs spots and join the five organizations with direct entry. These eight will duke it out in a double elimination bracket, Bo5 matches to crown the winner.
