Valorant Champions Tour 2026 starts with Pacific at #1 — Kickoff first-week top matches & viewership

Jan 29, 2026 8 min read

The Valorant Champions Tour 2026 has begun, starting with the Kickoff tournament in each of the International Leagues (IL). Across the first round of opening games, the regional viewership spread is much different than last year’s Kickoffs, highlighting some interesting shifts for the upcoming season. Esports Charts breaks down the viewership results and most popular matches for the first week matches of the VCT 2026 Kickoffs.

New in 2026, the Valorant Champions Tour adopted a triple bracket system for its Kickoff events. The result is a format where each game has high stakes, threatening to move a team one step closer to elimination, whilst still giving teams ample chances to perform for their fans. Also, Riot Games introduced the 1v1 Skirmish, where teams now elect players to face off; after five points, a winner is crowned and their team may choose to be Team A or B in the map veto process. These changes are all aimed at making for more exciting action and generating fan interest.

Throughout the first week of matches (Days 1–4) for each Valorant IL, the Pacific region emerged as 2026’s early leader. Pacific has developed an international, diversified viewership, which spans countries like Japan, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. It also earns a strong, English-language viewership, which contributed significantly to its opening week total. All in all, the first matches of the VCT 2026: Pacific Kickoff received over 4.7M Hours Watched (HW), marking a 7.5% increase in watch time year-on-year.

Across the globe, the VCT 2026: Americas Kickoff opened to 12.8% lower watch time than last year, struggling to generate the high viewership it enjoyed in the past. While the Americas circuit was once the undisputed leader in viewership, its momentum has slowed in recent years. Fan-favourite rosters no longer generate the same attention here as they did years ago, and the Kickoff recorded significant drops in both English and Portuguese-language peak concurrent viewers.

On paper, the EMEA circuit recorded a shocking drop in viewership; however, the opening days of the Kickoff in 2025 featured some of the IL’s top matches of the year, including a French derby. The VCT 2026: EMEA Kickoff received 2.83M Hours Watched, settling into the third spot internationally that it has often held.

Esports Charts cannot track viewership data on Chinese livestreaming platforms, due to how these sites track performance. Chinese platforms use a Heat Index, which is a metric influenced by various factors that differ from site-to-site; therefore, making comparisons between platforms is impossible.

The VCT 2026: China Kickoff recorded a steep drop in viewership for the beginning of 2026. So far, the IL has attracted fewer co-streamers and generated less interest on its official broadcasts, too. The Chinese league hosts some of the strongest players in Valorant esports, and their region already has a world championship under their belt, but interest outside of China in the league remains minor.

For the Pacific, the showdown between Global Esports and Paper Rex proved to be the most popular match, clocking in at over 482.6K Peak Viewers. Patrick "PatMen" Mendoza played a short stint with Paper Rex in 2025, winning Rookie of the Year during his region’s Stage 2 and also Initiator of the Year. After leaving the team, he reunited with his old teammate Xavier "xavi8k" Juan on Global Esports. The reunion match was highly followed, and although Paper Rex came out on top 2:1, GE proved to be a potential top contender for their region.

DetaNation FocusMe facing off against Rex Regum Qeon was, naturally, also a popular game. DFM is one of Japan’s two teams in the VCT, and despite still waiting for international success, Japan boasts one of Valorant’s strongest audiences. Japanese viewership contributed significantly to the total of 448.3K Peak Viewers, many of whom were there to follow Rex Regum Qeon, who emerged as a strong contender towards the end of 2025, but failed to escape the group stage at Champions. RRQ’s first match of 2026 began with a 2:0 victory against the Japanese side, a strong start for the year.

DFM’s opening match against Gen.G was also one of the most popular games, with just over 317.2K Peak Viewers. Gen.G was previously a top contender internationally, but with their roster having undergone many changes over the years, they started 2026 with a 0:2 loss. DFM looked sharp in their opening game, and their win here likely contributed to increased interest for their second game against RRQ.

Over in the Americas, a strange new figure debuted in the Valorant Champions Tour. In early 2023, ENVY signed an up-and-coming team of Ranked players and streamers who had qualified for the Challengers circuit. Under the banner, they dominated the Challengers circuit with off-meta play, and qualified for franchising through the Ascension tournament. Their opening match against Evil Geniuses received 243.4K PV, where ENVY claimed a triumphant 2:1 debut win, but their second game proved more popular.

For their second game in the Valorant Champions Tour, ENVY faced a newly-bolstered MIBR. Supporting their star player Erick "aspas" Santos, MIBR acquired former SEN star Zachary "zekken" Patrone and two of aspas’ former teammates. The new MIBR looks powerful, and they began the year with a 2:0 victory over the newcomers; although ENVY can take solace in bringing the scoreline to a close 11–13 on Map 2 against a superstar team. This showdown was the most popular game of the Americas Kickoff so far, generating over 297.6K Peak Viewers.

On Day 4, the new Sentinels roster debuted against FURIA, leading to a classic North-South Americas match that generated significant fan attention. Both teams came to the Kickoff with revamped rosters — Sentinels called up Yassin "reduxx" Aboulalazm to the VCT, a young star who has been competing with the organization’s Challengers team, but FURIA proved to be a step ahead. Viewership reached over 254K Peak Viewers as FURIA claimed their first 2:0 of 2026.

In the EMEA circuit, Fnatic’s opening game of 2026 against BBL Esports was the most popular game of Week 1, generating over 206.7K Peak Viewers. Fnatic, while previously a legendary roster in Valorant, has experienced its fair share of tough losses recently. On the other hand, BBL has increasingly improved since joining the VCT in 2023, and they ended 2025 as one of EMEA’s top contenders. Kicking things off, BBL clinched a 2:1 victory over Fnatic, sending the champion team to the lower bracket.

On Day 3, both matches reached over 170K Peak Viewers, finishing the leaderboard for the opening days. GIANTX was defeated 0:2 by Gentle Mates, which has reignited an interest from French fans in the matches. Another surprise for fans, Team Heretics was defeated 1:2 by NAVI; at the end of 2025, NAVI secured their best result in the EMEA circuit in over two years with a 4th place finish, and they will be aiming to improve and return to international events this year.

For the 2026 Kickoff tournaments, many things changed for the Valorant Champions Tour. EMEA experienced a sharp decline in viewership — albeit referenced against an abnormally popular start in 2025 — and the Pacific circuit emerged as the top circuit for broadcasting so far. This year of Valorant esports has only just begun, and as we look forward to the first major event of the year in Santiago, Chile, keep an eye on the evolving esports viewership with Esports Charts.
