The Mobile Legends: Professional League competition season is almost over. Matches have ended in Brazil, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Singapore, but not in Indonesia and the Philippines - the strongest regions of the discipline. In a new Esports Charts article, we will have a look at the results of MPL MY&SG, which for a long time co-existed within a single league.

Until the end of Season 6 (held in October 2020), Malaysia and Singapore were one MPL region. Now Season 2 is over, but the leagues of the two regions are running separately, which means we can more objectively analyze their viewership dynamics.

MPL Malaysia Season 8 was held from August 13 to October 17. Eight teams received direct invitations, and two teams made it through qualification. In total, the tournament was on air for 167 hours and had 5.2 million Hours Watched.

Three platforms hosted the MPL MY broadcasts: YouTube (51.6% of Hours Watched), Facebook (39.7% of Hours Watched) and TikTok (8.8% of Hours Watched). Regarding the audience, 93% of the Hours Watched were generated by the viewers of the Malaysian broadcast. The rest Hours Watched were shared between English- and Vietnamese-speaking viewers.

The most watched match was the final between TODAK and Team SMG137.4K Peak Viewers. Despite the fact that TODAK were seen as favorites, the victory went to their rivals SMG - they will represent Malaysia in the M3 World Championship.

If we compare the results of Season 8 with Season 7, we can see that Peak Viewers increased by 3.6%. At the same time, 137K Peak Viewers number was a new record for the Malaysian region!

Hours Watched also increased by 40% despite the fact that Season 8 was on air for less time than the previous season. It happened because MPL MY S8 had an increased number of Average Viewers, so the league generated more Hours Watched.

MPL SG Season 2 viewership stats

Season 2 of MPL SG ran from September 11 to October 17. As in Malaysia, the organizers invited six teams, and two of them got places in the tournament via qualification. The Singapore league, unlike the Malaysian one, was also streamed on Twitch, but YouTube is still the leader in the two regions, with 63% of Hours Watched in Singapore.

The broadcast audience was mostly English-speaking people as the official stream was only in that language. The most popular match of the tournament was the final between RSG and EVOS.SG — it had 20.6K Peak Viewers. EVOS.SG won this final and will represent Singapore in the M3 World Championship. It's noteworthy that these two teams also competed for the first place in Season 1, and EVOS.SG won that time too.

Although EVOS.SG topped in esports meritc, spectators preferred to watch the RSG matches more. The Average Viewers number of the finalist was 2.8K spectators, while the winners' matches were watched by 2.7K Average Viewers.

Hours Watched of MPL SG S2 decreased by 18% compared to Season 1, although Season 2 was on air for more time. Comparing the number of Average Viewers on the broadcasts, we also see a drop by 29%. This is the reason why viewers generated fewer Hours Watched.

The final match of Season 2 attracted 2K fewer Peak Viewers than the debut tournament. The drop in the key numbers of Season 2 shows that Singapore is not much of an interest to ML:BB fans as a separate region, but the audience of the Malaysian tournament is only growing. MPL MY performance is even better than when it was with Singapore because popular teams from Malaysia got more airtime.
