BLAST.tv Austin Major: Viewership jumps 40% as all top teams enter the action, new peak reached

Jun 13, 2025 3 min read

The stakes just got higher at the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025. Stage 3 began with top-tier teams like Team Vitality and Team Spirit finally stepping onto the stage, and the shift was felt immediately. With heavyweights in play, the day was packed with big names, bold plays, and a few unexpected upsets. Fans responded in kind: average viewership shot up by 40% from Stage 2, and the event reached a new peak in concurrent viewers.

The biggest upset of the day, especially for anyone with a Pick’Em Challenge on the line, was Team Vitality’s shocking loss to Brazil’s Legacy. The match ended the French team’s incredible 30-series win streak, and it wasn’t just the result that stunned fans: it was the manner of the defeat. Legacy dismantled Vitality with ruthless precision, conceding just three rounds on their way to a dominant victory on Inferno. As the opening match of Stage 3, it drew massive attention and went on to become the day’s most popular game.

Another surprise came from MOUZ, who stumbled out of the gate with back-to-back losses and now find themselves just one series away from elimination. While their opponents (Virtus.pro and FaZe Clan) were no easy matchups, few would’ve expected such a slow start from a team that's considered as one of the tournament’s dark horses.

When it comes to viewership, nearly all key metrics saw a significant boost, both overall and across most major demographics. Among the top languages, Brazilian Portuguese was the only one that didn’t grow compared to Stage 2, largely because Brazilian fans showed an exceptional surge of enthusiasm during the previous stage’s final day, driven by MIBR’s near-advancement, which hasn’t yet fully rebounded in Stage 3. With Legacy and FURIA now making headlines, Brazilian numbers are expected to climb again soon.

One of the standout shifts was the Ukrainian-language peak, which jumped by a remarkable 70%, clearly tied to Natus Vincere’s entry into the tournament. Russian-speaking viewers also showed up in greater numbers, largely rallying behind Team Spirit, who likewise made their debut in Stage 3.

In terms of overall metrics, the most notable growth came in average viewership, which jumped by an impressive 40% compared to Stage 2. The peak viewership also rose, though more modestly, now surpassing 1.1 million concurrent viewers. Interestingly, the peak didn’t come during the opening round, but during two matches running in parallel: Aurora vs. FaZe and MongolZ vs. FURIA. Together, these games featured teams relevant to nearly all of CS’s core demographics: Europeans, North and South Americans, Brazilians, and the rapidly growing fanbase from Mongolia.

After just one day of play, the main contenders for the playoffs and the teams at risk of an early exit are already taking shape. Today’s schedule features a high-stakes CIS derby between Natus Vincere and Team Spirit, with a playoff spot on the line. The other qualifying match will see FURIA face off against Virtus.pro. Elimination matches promise just as much drama: either Team Liquid or MOUZ will be heading home, while Nemiga and paiN Gaming will battle for survival in the day’s second lower-bracket clash.
