EMEA Masters Spring 2024 Group Stage sees more peak viewers than last edition

EMEA Masters Spring 2024 Group Stage sees more peak viewers than last edition

The EMEA Masters Spring 2024, which began on April 15, saw its Group Stage conclude on April 20. The eight teams making up the Knockout Stage have now been decided, and they will battle it out until the winner emerges on April 28, with $80,000 on the line, including a little over $21K for the victor.

This event had much better numbers in the Group Stage than the previous year, jumping up by 98.7% and 75.3% in terms of peak and average viewership, respectively. The difference in watch time was negligible and can be attributed to the much longer broadcast time for the EMEA Masters Spring 2023.

The EMEA Masters Spring 2024 hit its peak during the Group B clash between SK Gaming Prime and Karmine Corp Blue, two highly followed sides from their respective countries. The former is one of Germany’s oldest and most successful esports organizations while the latter is owned by France’s streaming superstar Kamet0. The two nations also share a lengthy history and enjoy a rivalry spanning decades across sports and professions, ensuring there was some extra spice for this contest.

On the day, it was Prime League Spring 2024 runner-up SK Gaming who prevailed 1:0 over Karmine Corp Blue, the LFL Spring 2024 champion. The latter's popularity could also be seen in the fact that it appeared four times on the top five most popular games list. With the fame that its owner (and event co-streamer) Kamet0 enjoys, readers can expect this trend to more or less remain come the end of this competition.

The English and German languages have experienced opposite activities between the last two Spring splits in their watch time, with the former seeing a decrease in its Group Stage efforts in 2024. The latter, thanks to the good performance of its representatives at this League of Legends competition, saw a big spike.

One thing that could affect the viewership potential of this LoL tournament is the exit of Gentle Mates in the Group Stage. After all, owners Gotaga, Brawks, and Squeezie are popular French content creators, with Gotaga covering many games and bringing more fans to every game the team plays. In fact, he was second only to Kamet0 in terms of peak viewership at the LFL Spring 2024, so his absence could see interest among a section of fans from France drop off.

With Los Heretics, one of the more followed Spanish sides, also getting knocked out, fans from the community have logged off. This is seen in the fact that the language saw a fall in its peak viewership during the Group Stage, not helped by the fact that there is no representative in the knockouts.

It remains to be seen what other language and platform dynamics open up come the Grand Finals. For now, fans can catch all the live action on Twitch and YouTube. The last stage is ongoing, and more updates can be found in the Esports Charts news section.
