Esports in June 2025 — tournament achievements & updates

Last month hosted some of the most popular esports events of the year, with various top titles hosting significant tournaments, including a Counter-Strike Major, a Valorant Masters event, and the beginnings of the Mid-Season Invitational for League of Legends. Top news stories of June 2025 BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025 became the most-watched Counter-Strike tournament of all time BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025: Team Vitality secures second Major title BLAST.tv Austin Major sets viewership record for Counter-Strike in the United States Valorant Masters Toronto 2025 pulls in fewer Peak Viewers than Bangkok as Paper Rex clinches its biggest title BLAST.tv Austin Major outshines VCT Masters Toronto across all key viewership metrics Counter-Strike has enjoyed a strong start to the year, and June only saw the tactical shooter ramp up and gain even more momentum. The BLAST.tv Austin Major was a major success, becoming the most-watched Counter-Strike tournament of all time, and dominated headlines throughout the month. Although other titles tried their best, CS2 emerged at the top for June. Counter-Strike 2 breaks records with Austin Major The BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025 made history by becoming the most-watched Counter-Strike event ever. In total, it accumulated over 76.13M Hours Watched and peaked at just under 1.79M Peak Viewers (PV) for the grand final between Team Vitality and The MongolZ. The storyline behind many of the team’s at the Major drew in many viewers for this Major. Even though The MongolZ could not complete their underdog story fully and claim a Major championship, their run through the tournament generated a new esports viewership record for Mongolian viewers — with a PV equal to almost 3% of their population. Team Vitality claiming their second Major title also fuelled a new French-language viewership record for Counter-Strike esports. On top of the grand followings of these finalists, teams such as Team Spirit, NAVI, FaZe Clan, and MOUZ all received significant followings throughout the event. FaZe Clan enjoyed special attention, thanks to star player Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyljev joining the team on-loan. Many had tempered expectations for the Ukrainian player’s return to the stage, but he did not disappoint, pointing on a show and helping bring FaZe Clan to a top-8 result. S1mple’s presence undoubtedly had an effect on FaZe being the most popular team of Stage 1-2. The return to North America also paid dividends for Valve’s top Counter-Strike event. The Major received a significant portion of its watch time from English-speaking viewers, by far the largest audience throughout the Major overall. For over 135 hours of total broadcasting time, English-language broadcasts maintained 230,000 Average Viewers at this three-week-long spectacle. Paper Rex win their first Masters title in Toronto Another flavor of shooter, Valorant’s second Masters event of 2025 saw Paper Rex finally lift their first international trophy. The Asian squad has been chasing this dream for a long time, often coming dreadfully close, but they managed to push through against Fnatic for a grueling best-of-five in Toronto. Although peak viewership fell compared to the previous Masters event, both watch time and AV show an increase compared to Bangkok. Overall, Valorant Masters Toronto 2025 hosted some strong match-ups. Intense from start to finish, the tournament saw some electrifying playoffs match-ups to cap everything off: games like Paper Rex vs Sentinels, Gen.G Esports’ shock defeat against Wolves Esports, and Fnatic eliminating RRQ, Sentinels, G2 Esports, and finally Wolves Esports in an epic lower-bracket run for the ages. The tournament had no shortage of highlights, but ultimately, it struggled to generate an audience outside English-speaking fans. The viewership results for Masters Toronto show a solid base of English-speaking viewers, and secondary audiences from Asia, Europe, and the Americas. However, English-language broadcasts were the only broadcast language to reach above 100,000 PV at any point during the tournament, and other language groups remain seemingly unengaged. Read also: Top 5 Valorant Masters Toronto moments according to Twitch chat Japanese-speaking viewers were the second-largest language group for Masters Toronto by both Peak and Average Viewers, and yet, there was no Japanese team in Toronto for them to cheer for. Despite many regionally-popular teams having qualified for the Masters, no group ‘stepped up’ as we have seen at previous top Valorant tournaments — at Masters Madrid Portuguese-language viewership reached 280K PV and at Masters Bangkok over 172K Korean viewers tuned in. Masters Toronto was an exciting, premiere Valorant event that enraptured significant audiences throughout. However, if Valorant wants to break records and grow its viewership, it will have to tap into a secondary audience further to support the main English-language base. MSI starts picking up speed June also marked the beginning of the Mid-Season Invitational 2025 (MSI) for League of Legends, starting with its Play-In Stage. Though still early in the competition, MSI has already shown signs of being another massive success for Riot’s MOBA, especially across emerging regions. For 2025, the MSI is using a new system with fewer total teams, but lengthier, more-exciting matches. The new Fearless Draft system has been well-received by the community, but with fewer teams competing at the tournament, the MSI has had fewer activated audiences to work with. For the Play-In Stage, co-streaming viewership grew compared to last year’s results, now accounting for a majority of the stage’s watch time. Co-streaming is becoming increasingly crucial across all esports, including League of Legends. The early results of the MSI 2025 in June were not an improvement over last year, but nevertheless strong results. More than 1.1M PV tuned in for the Play-In Stage, and this number rose considerably for the further stages in early July.
