After a short break, the final stage of PGL Antwerp Major 2022 began. On May 19, the first pair of semifinalists of the CS:GO major were determined in two quarterfinals matches. Esports Charts sums up the results of the games and the viewership statistics of the first day of the Champions Stage.

Results of the first day of playoffs

The teams played on stage for the first time during this tournament. Antwerp's Sport Palace welcomed CS:GO fans who came to enjoy the matches of Team Spirit vs FURIA Esports and FaZe Clan vs Ninjas in Pyjamas.

In the first semifinal of the tournament, FaZe Clan defeated NiP. karrigan`s team opened the score in the series with a victory on their pick, Nuke (16:10), but then lost on Overpass (13:16). Inferno was a decider, and there the European mix did not leave a chance for the Danes — 16:8.

Team Spirit continued their Cinderella story at this tournament and got an extremely confident victory over FURIA Esports. The Dragons were stronger on two consecutive maps — on Vertigo (16:12) and Ancient (16:8).

Now Team Spirit and FaZe Clan will fight for securing the place in the final of the tournament. The Russian team has never gone so far in the majors in its history, and for FaZe this may be the second final: karrigan and rain may have a chance for redemption for losing to Cloud9 in 2016.

Viewership statistics of the first day of playoffs

There was no increase in viewership metrics after the first matches. The two quarterfinals gathered more than 5 million Hours Watched, and the number of Average Viewers reached the highest during the tournament with 694K.

There has also been a certain decline in broadcast languages as well. The peak of English-language broadcasts was 456K viewers, and Portuguese-language streams amassed only 337K people at peak. After the elimination of Imperial e-Sports, Brazilians' interest in the major dropped quite a lot.

The first day of the major playoffs in Antwerp turned out to be less popular than the first day of last year's tournament in Stockholm. At the same time, both the level of matches and the popularity of the teams that played in the first days of the playoffs are quite comparable. The peak of viewers on the first day of the Stockholm Major playoffs was 1 million people at the Heroic vs Virtus.pro match  — and this is 9% higher than the peak of the first day of the playoffs in Antwerp.

The number of Average Viewers of the first day of the stage matches in Antwerp also turned out to be slightly lower than its predecessor, by 7%. As a result, the number of Hours Watched on the first day of the Antwerp playoffs also turned out to be lower: 5 million Hours Watched compared to 5.7 million for the same day of the major in Stockholm 2021.

Such a drop can be explained by the smaller number of the broadcast channels. However, viewership statistics dropped even on the official channels . However, the final stage of the major has just begun, and NAVI has not yet entered the game: the audience of the tournament will inevitably only grow.
