Top Players & Best Highlights of PGL Copenhagen Major 2024

Apr 02, 2024 5 min read

Natus Vincere defeated FaZe Clan in the grand final of the PGL Copenhagen Major 2024, becoming the champions of the first major since the release of Counter-Strike 2. The championship entertained viewers with many exciting matches and highlights, and Esports Charts together with betting brand GG.BET gathered statistics on the tournament's top players.

Additionally, we also analyzed the tournament's chat to understand how viewers reacted to certain plays & fails. We would like to give a shoutout to DATA.BET, the premium esports betting solution provider, for their assistance in collecting gaming statistics.

The championship held in Denmark saw a surprisingly decent amount of aces: 12 players scored 5 kills per round overall. Natus Vincere and ENCE players stood out from the rest, with two players from each team making an ace. Interestingly, Krzysztof 'Goofy' Gorski and Kacper 'Kylar' Walukiewicz (both from ENCE) achieved in the same match against Imperial Esports at the beginning of the tournament. The Brazilian team Imperial Esports had the worst luck in this regard, as three players from opposing teams managed to make an ace against them.

Wondering which players stood out during the Opening & Elimination stages? Curious about which clutch moment generated the most excitement from viewers? Read on for more details.

The aces by Natus Vincere players can arguably be considered the most spectacular and crucial. W0nderful single-handedly defended the plant against Eternal Fire, preventing the opponents from equalizing the score on the second map of the quarterfinals. And it was JL's ace that kickstarted NAVI's comeback in the semifinals’ decisive map against G2 Esports.

Following the final, HLTV.org named Justinas 'JL' Lekavicius as the Most Valuable Player of the PGL Copenhagen Major 2024. And rightfully so: the Lithuanian player delivered an outstanding performance in playoff matches, finishing the competition with a 1.22 rating. He showcased versatility in various aspects of the game, notably emerging as one of the leaders in clutch situations and securing the 1-2 spots in wallbang kills.

It's also worth mentioning Ilya 'm0NESY' Osipov: he had an absolutely fantastic tournament in terms of individual statistics. However, unfortunately, it wasn't enough to lead G2 Esports to the final. Nonetheless, Ilya emerged as the undisputed leader of the tournament in clutch situations, winning 9 of them, and like jL, he made 16 wallbang kills.

FaZe Clan's David 'Frozen' Čerňanský stood out among the other members of his team. He ranked #1 in the tournament for smoke frags and also made it into the top three leaders for wallbang frags.

And now let's talk about the most hyped moments of the tournament, which we determined based on the Twitch chats’ speed. Of course, viewers reacted most fervently to NAVI's victory in the decisive round of the final map of the grand final: after the last frag, the chats skyrocketed to over 17,000 messages per minute (!). This is 56% more than the second most hyped moment of the tournament.

The second place went to the incredibly funny interview with jL after the final. While b1t and w0nderful were extremely shy and modest in their post-match interviews, jL couldn't contain his emotions, hilariously sending "greetings" to all the haters of NAVI's captain Aleksi 'Aleksib' Virolainen. During the interview, the chats collectively moved at a speed of 10,900+ messages per minute.

Attention! Esports fiends destroyed more than 130 chickens during the tournament. That's over 7 chickens per map! How long will we tolerate this?

In third place, with a slight gap from the moment with jL, was the clutch by FaZe Clan veteran Håvard 'rain' Nygaard in the quarterfinals against Team Spirit. The Norwegian player won a 1vs2 duel and knocked the champions of IEM Katowice 2024 out of the tournament. At that moment, the chats escalated to 10,700+ messages per minute.

And what Counter-Strike tournament would be complete without the constant chants of 'God' and 'Bot' in the chats? It's not particularly easy to impress the Twitch audience with highlights (it's much easier to entertain with funny fails), but viewers most often reacted to the action with the word 'God' — this word appeared more than twice as often as 'Bot'.

Viewers were most impressed (whether jokingly or seriously) by plays from Jame, Felps, and rain. The audience also teased FaZe Clan, and Karrigan in particular (the player did not have the best final in terms of individual performance), as well as nexa from G2 Esports.
