LEC and LCS chat analytics — sponsor mentions and most popular emotes
Previously, Esports Charts summed up the results of many League of Legends spring splits. We named the most popular teams, as well as compared the statistics of the tournaments with each other. In a new Esports Charts article, we will tell you what emotes were the most popular with viewers of the largest events in Europe and North America — LEC Spring 2022 and LCS Spring 2022 — on Twitch, and how often sponsors of these broadcasts were mentioned in the chat.
Sponsor mentions
We analyzed the Twitch chat of the Riot Games, LEC, and LCS channels during the spring splits for Europe and North America and found that brands were only mentioned on the LEC and the LCS channels. However, sponsors were mentioned more than three times less frequently on the LEC Spring 2022 broadcasts than on the LCS Spring 2022 ones. This is partly due to the difference in the number of sponsors of the broadcasts, but also due to the number of jokes with brands names’ mentions on the LCS broadcasts.

The most mentioned sponsor in the LEC Spring 2022 broadcast chat is KitKat. The name of this chocolate bar appeared 1,160 times in 941 messages from 603 users. This hype is primarily due to KitKat running several giveaways of their products as well as skins for LoL. It should be noted that the chatbot of the broadcast was integrated with the !kitkat command, using which viewers received information about the terms of giveaways.
KIA was mentioned three times less frequently, 323 times in 292 messages from 243 users. The third most frequently mentioned brand is Red Bull, which was mentioned 242 times in 232 messages by 198 users. The UltraGear gaming monitors by LG and the Logitech G headset were mentioned less than a hundred times.
We should note that during brand advertising on LEC broadcasts, users jokingly thanked sponsors with messages like "TY KITKAT", "TY KIA" and "TY Red Bull".

The most mentioned sponsor in the chat of LCS Spring 2022 broadcasts is the cryptocurrency exchange FTX. Its name appeared in the chat 1,222 times in 1,067 messages from 710 users. The second most frequently mentioned brand is Red Bull (874 times), and Bud Light is in third place (761 times).
Insurance company State Farm, food delivery service Grubhub, gaming peripherals developer ROCCAT, mobile operator Verizon, payment system MasterCard and Prime Gaming subscription appeared in the chat even less frequently.
It is worth noting that more than 2K LCS Spring 2022 viewers' posts had the names of almost all the brands presented as joking copypastas. Here is what the most popular copypasta with the mentions of the American split broadcast sponsors looked like:
“I can’t wait to see TSM FTX take DIG QNTMPAY’s CISCO NEXUS after they win the GRUBHUB team fight and get a BUD LIGHT ACE at the RED BULL BARON. I can then tweet on the VERIZON 5G all chat during the ROCCAT REPLAY and STATE FARM analyst desk.”
Most popular emotes
The most popular emote in the LEC Spring 2022 broadcast chat is KEKW. It was used several times more often than any other — 326.8K times. In second place by the number of uses is another funny emote — LUL — which appeared in the chat more than 70.8K times.
The third most popular emote of the European split is BatChest — a meme denoting fake surprise at what was seen on the broadcast. The audience used it more than 68.7K times, mostly during KDA commercials and music pauses. It should be noted that one of the most popular copypastas with BatChest was a line from Imagine Dragons & J.I.D. - Enemy, which is also the soundtrack to the Arcane series:
“Oh, the misery BatChest Everybody wants to be my enemy BatChest Spare the sympathy BatChest Everybody wants to be my enemy-y-y-y-y BatChest.”
The Top-10 emotes of the LEC Spring 2022 chat also included monkaW, Pog, OMEGALUL, Kreygasm, MorphinTime, POGGERS and ResidentSleeper. It's worth mentioning that Kreygasm was used quite a bit when the female hosts appeared on the broadcast, and MorphinTime was mentioned several times in the copypastas in support of Team Fnatic:
“MorphinTime SPAM MorphinTime THIS MorphinTime STATIC MorphinTime TO MorphinTime HELP MorphinTime FNATIC MorphinTime.”

KEKW became the most popular emote in the LCS Spring 2022 broadcasts chat, but its lead over its closest pursuer is not so impressive.
Second place by the number of uses is taken by OSFrog. It is quite interesting, because OSFrog is directly related to IceFrog, the developer of Dota, and usually denotes a lack of balance. But at the LCS Spring 2022 broadcasts, this "frog" emote was associated with Josedeodo — the Argentinian player from the FlyQuest team. The audience actively supported this player, using emotes such as PowerUpR and PowerUpL, as well as MercyWing1 and MercyWing2 together with OSFrog.
The most popular copypasta in support of Josedeodo looked like this:
“FEEL THE TUKI ? PowerUpL OSFrog PowerUpR FEEL THE TUKI ? PowerUpL OSFrog PowerUpR FEEL THE TUKI ? PowerUpL OSFrog PowerUpR FEEL THE TUKI ? PowerUpL OSFrog PowerUpR.”
Tuki is an Argentine idiom that means "good" or "done. Josedeodo often uses this word on his broadcasts, so viewers started calling him Tuki.
Other Top-10 emotes of the LCS Spring 2022 broadcast chat are ResidentSleeper, LUL, and Pog.
