Most popular esports tournaments in April 2024

Update, May 6: A missing MLBB event was added to the report, pushing CBLOL out of the overall top 5.

Having ceded its crown to Mobile Legends: Bang Bang in March, League of Legends returned with a vengeance to top the charts in the first month of the year's second quarter. The success of its regional circuits, many of which are seeing viewership improvements every year, played a significant part in this return to the summit.

The data does not consider the statistics of Chinese live-streaming platforms due to the unreliability of the public metrics provided.

While Valorant and Counter-Strike 2 also continued to find places for themselves across these top five lists, there was a new discipline that reminded everyone about its global success. PUBG Mobile had one of its most dominant markets, Asia, to thank for its rise to becoming one of April's most popular disciplines.

The most viewed competition last month when it comes to peak concurrent viewership is the LCK Spring 2024. Enough and more has been written about this record-breaking tournament from LoL's most crucial and popular region, but the numbers bear repeating — the most popular iteration of the regional circuit ever; the discipline's most-watched tournament ever outside the world championship; the most popular League of Legends game to take place outside the Worlds events. Just an astonishing achievement for a league that is perhaps the most important event outside of world championships across disciplines.

The MPL Indonesia Season 13 ranked second with 1.6M concurrent viewers for the month, which was reached during the clash between fan-favorite RRQ Hoshi and Rebellion Esports. The former has had a tough time so far, winning just five games during the Regular Season and being placed outside the automatic qualifying places for the Playoffs. Fans and organizers will be hoping it can pull its socks up and put in the performances needed to make the knockouts, failing which this Mobile Legends: Bang Bang event's viewership could be affected.

Third is another Spring split from Riot Games' legendary MOBA, the LEC Spring 2024, which continued its gradual crawl toward becoming one of the most high-performing leagues in the game. In fact, compared to the corresponding event from 2023, this year showed growth in viewership, showing steady growth over the first four months. Most crucially, its peak and average viewerships saw increases in 2024, with the watch time barely changing thanks to a negligible fall.

Fourth place went to PUBG Mobile Global Open 2024 which hit 513.6 PV during Round 15, when Vampire Esports clinched a joint-highest third win in the Main Event. It was also when REJECT more or less sealed its tournament victory to create history as Japan's first side to get its hands on an international trophy in the title's lengthy esports history. In its maiden outing, it ended among the discipline's most popular events over the past two seasons.

The fifth most popular event of the month was VCT 2024: Americas League - Stage 1 with 494K PV, achieved on April 14 during the Week 2 cross-group clash between Sentinels and LeviatánThis was a clash between powerhouses from North and South America, and such occasions always pull in an extra number of viewers as it signifies a battle for regional bragging rights. The Argentine side won 2:0 and tops Group Omega while its continental rival is languishing at the bottom of Group Alpha.

Among English viewers, too, the most popular tournament is the LCK Spring 2024, with the Grand Final between T1 and Gen.G pulling in 587K PV. Next is the LEC Spring 2024, whose summit clash between G2 Esports and Fnatic achieved 325K PV.

The VCT 2024: Americas League - Stage 1 is third with 297.2K PV that was hit during the deciding match. Sentinels being there in this game would have played a major part in the game and the event doing as well as it did, with the NA esports organization undoubtedly enjoying a status as the title's most followed side.

CS2 events take up the last two slots on this top-five leaderboard, with the IEM Chengdu 2024 in fourth having created a new record as the discipline's most popular event held in China. Last is the ongoing ESL Pro League Season 19 which managed 156K PV among English audiences during the all-Portuguese, Group Stage, Day 4 clash between Imperial Esports and SAW.
