Over 1M Peak Viewers — an overview of the group stage of MLBB Southeast Asia Cup 2022
June 12 marked the end of the group stage of one of the largest ML:BB LAN tournaments, Southeast Asia Cup 2022. The main favorites of the competition (RSG PH, RRQ Hoshi, and Omega Esports) made it to the playoffs of the tournament, and the main sensation of the event was the early elimination of ONE Esports MPL Invitational 2021 champions, ONIC Esports. MLBB Southeast Asia Cup 2022 is hosted by Moonton with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia and the Esports Integrated (ESI). The tournament takes place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and for the first time in two years it is conducted in LAN format (Southeast Asia Cup 2020 was canceled due to the coronavirus, and the 2021 tournament was held online). Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Center was chosen as the arena of the competition. Matches of the playoffs will be held there starting from June 15th.
Group Stage Results
The annual largest ML:BB tournament in Southeast Asia brought together the region’s twelve strongest teams that will compete for the title of the best team in Southeast Asia and the total prize pool of $300K. In the group stage, the teams were divided into four groups, with the two strongest teams from each group advancing to the playoffs.

In Group A, ONIC Esports, lost in their matches against the dark horse of the tournament, Falcon Esports, and TODAK, who rehabilitated after a failed performance at the 31st SEA Games. Thus, one of the main contenders for the title left the tournament early. In group B, both rosters of the RSG (champions of the MPL PH Season 9 and MPL SG Season 3) successfully made it to the playoffs.
Group C was marked by a tough competition between the favorites of the tournament: four-time MPL ID winners RRQ Hoshi and the reigning champions Omega Esports. In group D, the leader was the Singaporean team EVOS SG, which is represented by the legendary player Soul. They will be joined in the playoffs by MPL MY Season 9 runner-up Orange Esports.
It should be also remembered that the developers presented a battle pass with many rewards, including a new exclusive Hierophant skin for Pharsa at the end of May. In addition, players have the opportunity to participate in the ONE Esports MSC 2022 Fantasy Challenge, where players will be able to win 40K diamonds for correct predictions.
Viewership statistics
The group stage of MLBB Southeast Asia Cup 2022 amassed 6.1M Hours Watched in just over 21 hours of airtime. The match of the reigning champions of the tournament Omega Esports against the winners of the Indonesian MPL RRQ Hoshi attracted 1.1M Peak Viewers. The latter became the most-watched team of the group stage with 1.9M Hours Watched.

The tournament is streamed on YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitch. The most popular was the broadcast on Youtube with 815K Peak Viewers. The group stage of MLBB Southeast Asia Cup 2022 was covered in eleven languages, many of which have updated their highest Peak Viewers figures since last year's tournament. So far, Indonesian has become the most popular language, its broadcasts gathered 684K PV, which is 14% more than last year. Streams in English took the second spot with 183K Peak Viewers, which is 400% more than last year.
Matches will resume on June 15. So far, the tournament shows rather positive viewership dynamics and might well beat the Peak Viewers indicator of not only last year's tournament, but also the M3 World Championship (3.2M viewers) and M2 World Championship (3M viewers).
