Against all odds — what teams and outcomes did PGL Copenhagen Major 2024 viewers bet on?
While PGL Copenhagen Major 2024 may not have been the most popular tournament in Counter-Strike history, the excitement surrounding the event was incredibly high. The recent Major was perhaps one of the most competitive tournaments of the series in several years: predicting the winner before the start was practically impossible, which means someone could have made a good profit out of it!
Esports Charts, in collaboration with the betting brand GG.BET, concludes the series of statistics-based publications on the first Counter-Strike 2 Major. Today, we will talk about the teams: who impressed the audience with close wins, which team the viewers believed in the most, and which team brought bettors the most money. Esports Charts also sends regards to DATA.BET, a premium esports betting solution provider, for their assistance in collecting gaming statistics.
First, let's take a look at the teams that impressed viewers with their gameplay across several important gaming aspects. One of which is the pistol rounds: with the transition to the new victory determination system (MR13 instead of MR16), the importance of pistol rounds to the map result has increased exponentially.

Eternal Fire became the most successful team in pistol rounds, winning 19 out of 30 in total; FaZe won the same amount of pistol rounds but also lost more. Particularly impressive were the the plays of Turkish team in the Elimination Stage, where their win rate exceeded 66.6%: it was one of the major reasons that helped the team sensationally advance to the playoffs.
In other aspects, the high-profile teams became the leaders, but special mention goes to TheMongolz: their pistol round win rate in the Opening Stage reached an incredible 72.2%, which was one of the key factors behind the team advancing to the next round.
By the way, do you know one of the secrets to NAVI's victory at the major? The team excelled in close matchups better than anyone else in the tournament: Aleksib's team won as many as six maps by a narrow margin. Composure is key!

It was Natus Vincere that GG.BET users bet most frequently. More than 10% of all bets on match wins were placed on the future winners of the major. Similarly, NAVI was also the team bettors believed in the most when it comes to clean sweeps (with a score of 2:0): over 15% of all such bets were placed on NAVI.
In second place for both types of bets were the runners-up of the major, FaZe Clan, but then the preferences of bettors diverged. In third place for the total number of bets on match outcomes was G2 Esports, and in fourth place was Imperial Esports. The Brazilian team surprised many in the Opening Stage, and many bettors, who were not afraid to take risks, paid closer attention to the roster.

Natus Vincere and FaZe Clan also turned out to be the teams that brought bettors the most money: collectively, their match wins accounted for over 31% of winning bets.
The highest winning odds for the tournament was 16, which is how much the bettor multiplied their bank by making an outright bet on Inferno as the most played map throughout the event. Additionally, odds of 13+ played out for bettors who picked Ancient as the map with the highest T-side win percentage, as well as those who bet on specific outcomes in the matches between MOUZ vs. Complexity Gaming and Natus Vincere vs. FaZe Clan.

And finally, how many Twitch viewers paid tribute to the teams during the tournament? The only team mentioned by over 50,000 unique Twitch users during the event was FaZe Clan. In the top four with over 40,000 users were Natus Vincere, the favorites of the Brazilian audience FURIA Esports, and G2 Esports.
Other Brazilian teams such as paiN Gaming, Imperial Esports, as well as teams that surprised with their results (whether positive or negative), were also highly discussed. This includes Eternal Fire, which surprisingly made it to the playoffs, and Team Spirit, which was eliminated in the very first playoff round despite many predicting their victory in the event.
