R6 Majors statistics — viewership dynamics and Twitch core audience
The first major of 2022 in R6: Siege ended a week ago with teams from North America dominating during the final stage. You can find the detailed results of the tournament here. In this article, Esports Charts will tell in detail about the audience dynamics of the latest majors, the most popular teams and regions of the past Six Charlotte Major 2022 and the core audience of the discipline on Twitch.
North Carolina hosted the opening of the new R6 game season. From May 16 to 22, the best teams in the world competed for the title of champion and shared a prize pool of $500,000, as well as over 2K SI points needed to qualify for the world championship. The playoff matches were held in the Charlotte Convention Center. Six Charlotte Major 2022 became the first R6 LAN event with an audience in two years.
Viewership statistics

The most popular tournament of the series remains the Six Major Raleigh 2019, which amassed 6 million Hours Watched and 268K Average Viewers. The COVID-19 outbreak has noticeably hit the popularity of Rainbow 6 tournaments. So, the major in Raleigh collected 31% more Hours Watched and 40% more Average Viewers than Charlotte Major.
However, Six Charlotte Major 2022 gathered 4.1 million Hours Watched and 121K Average Viewers, which is 2% more than the previous major in Sweden. So there are still certain reasons for optimism for R6 fans.
Six Charlotte Major’s most popular teams and regions
The most popular team of the tournament was the winner, DarkZero Esports, which gathered 69K Average Viewers at their matches. The second place is taken by Brazilians from Team oNe: the major winners in Mexico were considered one of the favorites of this tournament, however, they got eliminated by DarkZero Esports in the first round of playoffs. The indicator of their Average Viewers was 60K.

The third place by Average Viewers is taken by another North American team, Oxygen Esports. Before the major, they replaced Brazilian player Kyno and American representative Yoggah with Nuers and Dream, and the new blood helped the team: they finished the group stage without defeats and looked very confident right up to the semifinals. Their matches were watched by 57K Average Viewers.
The fourth place is occupied by Brazilians from Team Liquid with 56K Average Viewers. The finalists of the tournament Astralis closed the top five: their players made the largest number of highlights during the tournament and got the highest number of MVP titles. Their matches attracted 54K Average Viewers.
Unsurprisingly, North America became the most popular region, as 3 of the 4 semi-finalist teams were representatives of this region. They collected 3.7 million Hours Watched over 66 hours of airtime. The second place was taken by Brazilian teams with 1.9 million Hours Watched over 28 hours of airtime. European teams scored 1.5 million Hours Watched, with more airtime than their Brazilian colleagues. The most unpopular region was the APAC, they amassed only 647K Hours Watched.
Six Charlotte Major Streams Statistics
Six Charlotte Major 2022 was broadcast in 13 languages. The most popular streams were in English, they collected the biggest share amounting to 2.5 million Hours Watched, which is over 60% of the total amount. In second place were streams in Portuguese — 966K Hours Watched, which is 23% of the total.
The impact of community casting on the coverage of the major was not as noticeable as, for example, in Dota 2. Amateur streams gathered only 480K Hours Watched, which is only 11% of the total watch time of the tournament. Among the broadcasts in Portuguese, community casting amassed a third of total Hours Watched. The most popular channels were the official streamers of Team Liquid, razah (240K Hours Watched) and zigueira (109K Hours Watched).
What is the core audience of the R6 majors on Twitch?
Esports Charts also decided to track the number of unique Twitch viewers that watched the current tournament and its two predecessors in order to calculate the approximate core audience of the discipline on Twitch.

Six Mexico Major 2021 was watched by 525K unique authorized users, which is the highest figure among the given majors. In particular, Six Sweden Major 2021 attracted 450K unique viewers, and Six Charlotte Major 2022 attracted 444K people. If we compare the unique audience of the Mexican major and the major in Charlotte, it turns out that 151K watched both of these tournaments or 29% of the audience of Six Mexico Major 2021 watched Six Charlotte Major 2022.
If we compare the unique audience of this year's major and the major in Sweden, it turns out that 150K viewers watched both tournaments, so about 33% of the audience of Six Sweden Major 2021 watched Six Charlotte Major 2021. Despite the general decline in the audience of R6 majors, we can conclude that the discipline has its own loyal audience, which does not really decrease in time.
The next major on R6 will be held from August 15 to 22, 2022, the venue will be announced later.
