The matches of the divisions I & II of the regional DPC leagues have come to an end, and almost all the participants of the upcoming ESL One Stockholm Major 2022 have become known. In the new article, Esports Charts will tell you about the results and viewership statistics of the second round of Dota Pro Circuit in Western Europe, Southeast Asia, China, and North and South America.

ESL One Stockholm 2022 will be the first major of the competitive season in Dota 2 as the winter event was replaced with regional finals due to the coronavirus. Also, this will be the first Dota 2 tournament since the start of the pandemic that fans will be able to attend. Its participants will include the four best teams from Western Europe; three each from Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia; and two each from North and South America. Four teams from China will miss the major for reasons unknown at the time of publication (one of the possible reasons is local COVID restrictions). However, they will participate in DPC CN Tour 2 Regional Final, which will be held on May 6-8.

The second tour of the DPC in Eastern Europe was canceled due to the war in Ukraine. But at the end of April, Valve still organized a special tournament to select the strongest teams in the region for the Major. The results of the DPC EEU 2021/2022 Tour 2 Playoffs will be discussed in a separate article after the end of the event.

Statistics doesn't include data of Chinese streaming services due to the unreliability of the data they provide.

Divisions I

Western Europe has once again demonstrated the best viewership indicators among the first divisions. In total, DPC WEU 2021/2022 Tour 2 Division I broadcasts collected almost 7M Hours Watched and 184.8K Peak Viewers, which is 13% and 15% worse compared to the previous tour, respectively. At the same time, the tournament’s Average Viewers decreased by 19%.

OG became the leader of the event in terms of Average Viewers, while Team Secret was leading in terms of Hours Watched. Unsurprisingly, the match between these teams became the most popular match of the tournament.

It can be said that Western Europe is going through a generational change: the relatively young rosters of OG, Gaimin Gladiators, Team Liquid, and Tundra Esports qualified for the Major. Meanwhile, the Dota 2 veterans from Team Secret and Nigma Galaxy were left out of one of the biggest tournaments of the year, while the roster of KuroKy even relegateed into the second division.

Southeast Asia took the second spot in terms of viewership due to the absence of Eastern Europe, where Dota 2 is incredibly popular. The region has improved its viewership indicators in comparison with the results of the first round. Its Hours Watched, Peak Viewers, and Average Viewers grew by 23%, 18%, and 19%, respectively.

Curiously, Southeast Asia was the only region where Russian-language broadcasts failed to enter the top 5 in terms of Peak Viewers. Additionally, a huge number of viewers followed the matches of the event not only on Twitch but also on YouTube.

Fnatic, BOOM Esports, and T1 became the best teams at DPC SEA 2021/2022 Tour 2 Division I. T1 became the most-watched team as well, while BOOM was leading in terms of Average Viewers. The match between these two teams also became the most popular one of the tournament, gathering 111.2K Peak Viewers.

North America was the third most popular region among the first divisions. Compared to the previous DPC tour, its Hours Watched and Peak Viewers indicators dropped by 20% and 13%, respectively. Evil Geniuses and TSM became the strongest and most popular teams of the event, with the Peak Viewers mark of 69.2K being reached during their match.

The figures of the first divisions of China and South America are almost identical, but the DPC SA 2021/2022 Tour 2 Division I attracted slightly more Peak Viewers, while the DPC CN 2021/2022 Tour 2 Division I amassed slightly more Hours Watched. PSG.LGD, Xtreme Gaming, Team Aster, and Royal Never Give Up became the best Chinese teams, and Thunder Awaken along with beastcoast will be representing South America at the Major.

It should be also noted that South America was the only region where Facebook Gaming gathered more Peak Viewers than Twitch. Interestingly, the games in China were mostly watched by Russian-speaking audience.

Second divisions

If in the first division the teams were fighting for slots in ESL One Stockholm Major 2022, then in the second division the struggle was for getting into the major leagues. Entering the first division of DPC 2021/2022 will be goonsquad and Alliance (EEU), RSG and Talon Esports (SEA), 5RATFORCESTAFF and felt (NA), Dandelion Esport Club and Aster.Aries (CN), as well as SG esports and Wolf Team (SA).

The situation regarding the popularity of regions in the second division of the DPC almost completely coincides with that of the first division, but China still outperformed South America in all metrics. At the same time, it is curious that DPC WEU 2021/2022 Tour 2 Division II managed to outperform the first divisions of China, North and South America.

The DPC EEU 2021/2022 Tour 2 Playoffs is being held in a shortened format and will end on May 2nd. The top 3 teams of the event will go to the Major, and the team that takes the last place will fall into the second division.

ESL One Stockholm Major 2022 will take place May 12-20 at the Hovet Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. As part of the tournament, it was planned to play for $500 thousand and 3.53 thousand DPC points, but due to the lack of Chinese teams, the rules may change.
