Skyesports Championship 2024 sets record for Indian CS2 events

The latest event conducted by the popular South Asian organizer Skyesports concluded on July 28 at the Taj Lands End in Mumbai. This offline Counter-Strike affair ended as the Chennai-based company's most popular non-BGMI event ever, thanks to the presence of some popular names from Europe.

After six days of battling across seven maps, it came down to a clash between Asia's The MongolZ and Europe's 3DMAX for the lion's share of the $300K prize pool. The French side came out on top after two dominant rounds to claim the trophy and take home $120K, with the Mongolian team pocketing $70K.

The Skyesports Championship 2024 was able to attract 47.6K Peak Viewers during the Playoffs, Semifinals clash between The MongolZ and Eternal Fire. This meeting between a group topper and a runner-up also saw the event's two most popular sides meet, with the former emerging as the victor in a fairly comfortable fashion.

Interestingly, the Grand Final was only the fifth most popular match at this CS2 event, with two Group Stage matches making it to the top three: The MongolZ versus PARIVISION and 3DMAX versus Eternal Fire. In fact, the tournament runner-up had four appearances in this top five list, helping the event also hit 794K Hours Watched and 16.5K Average Viewers over 48 hours of airtime.

Readers must note that the highly-supported Russian side, BetBoom Team, withdrew at the last minute of this 12-team competition, making it such that one group had five teams compared to six in the other. However, that didn't stop Russian from ending as the most-watched language, taking up almost 35% of the cumulative share.

Moreover, FURIA Esports was replaced by Europe's BLEED Esports after a scheduling conflict prevented it from making it on time for the competition. If the former had participated, there is a high chance it would have reached a broader audience base as the beloved Brazilian team is followed by the larger Portuguese-speaking community.

Moreover, it ended as the organizer's most popular event when not looking at BGMI competitions and within the top ten by the same metric across disciplines. The mobile battle royale title, an Indian version of PUBG Mobile, enjoys a massive following in the subcontinent, so for a CS2 tournament to find space in such a leaderboard alludes to the game's growth in the country after a shallow few years.

The Skyesports Championship 2024 also ended as the top Counter-Strike tournament to be held in India by peak concurrent viewership. Its popularity on Twitch, which was by far the most preferred platform for fans to catch the action live, played a big role in this success, and Skyesports will hope that more such events can find a larger audience on the purple platform, which usually plays a big role in attracting viewers from more corners of the globe.
