We are approaching the middle of the third season of the Call of Duty League. The champion of the second major of 2022 will be determined this week, and it is not clear which of the teams will fight OpTic Texas for the title for now. The team of Seth Scump Abner and Anthony Shotzzy Cuevas-Castro continues to dominate the league, becoming the only team to win all five matches in the second online qualifier and extending their winning streak to 12 matches. Esports Charts overviews the results of the qualifiers for the second Major and talks about its viewership statistics.

Results of CDL 2022 Stage 2 Qualifiers

After the first major, where OpTic Texas won at home ground, there were several changes to the league's rosters. In particular, the Paris Legion signed newcomer Jimbo to replace FeLo, Neptune returned to the New York Subliners roster, and the team replaced Clayster with newcomer PaulEhx. In addition, London Royal Ravens also turned to the stand-in for help.

Perhaps the most sensational “comeback” of the second stage of CDL 2022 was the return to the pro scene of the legendary Preston Prestinni Sanderson, who replaced Simp (who was ill at the time) in the Atlanta FaZe match against OpTic. Although FaZe lost the game, the audience was convinced that Prestinni remains in quite good shape. Meanwhile, the e-athlete has already announced that he wants to return to the competitive Call of Duty after the end of the second major.

When it comes to results, OpTic Texas showed the best performance: the team won all five qualifier matches and continues to be the most likely team to win the second major. The top 4 at the end of the group stage also included the London Royal Ravens and Atlanta FaZe, who had proven themselves in the first major. Meanwhile, the Toronto Ultra managed to win only one match out of five: but it should be noted that all games were insanely close, and the final statistics cannot be seen as fully reflecting the real level of the team. The main disappointment for Call of Duty fans was the performance of the Los Angeles Thieves, who lost all its matches.

Viewership statistics of the tournament

The matches of the second stage were held for two and a half weeks, and they were on the air for more total of 50.5 hours. During this time, the tournament generated 1.8M Hours Watched with 35.9K viewers tuning in the broadcast on average. It should be reminded that the only official English-language broadcast of the tournament took place on YouTube.

OpTic Texas is by far the league’s most popular team and their recent success has brought in even more fans. The most popular match of the tournament was the OPTX versus Los Angeles Thieves one in the first week: it attracted 91.4K Peak Viewers, which is 7% more than the second most popular match of the qualifiers. Note that OpTic participated in each of the top 5 matches.

Compared to other participants, OpTic is also leading by a wide margin in terms of Average Viewers and total Hours Watched. Los Angeles Thieves and Atlanta FaZe also made into the top 3 by both metrics.

Compared to the Stage 1 of CDL 2022 the viewership statistics of the league decreased slightly. In particular, the Average Viewers number dropped by 10%, while Hours Watched decreased by 15%. However, the drop in the second indicator was also affected by the decrease in airtime as the Stage 2 games were broadcast for two hours less than during the first stage.

At the same time, an increase in Peak Viewers can be noted. The most popular Stage 1 game was the one between Los Angeles Guerrillas and Boston Breach, but it attracted 11% fewer Peak Viewers than the match between LAT and OpTic during Stage 2.

The second Major of the season will run from March 31 to April 3 in Prior Lake, Minnesota. Following OpTic, the tournament will be hosted by Minnesota RØKKR. The team will have to give its everything to please its fans at the home arena of the Mystic Lake Event Center, given that it will start the tournament from the lower bracket.
