MPL Malaysia Season 12 set another viewership record for the league
MPL Malaysia is the professional Mobile Legends: Bang Bang league for the Malaysian player base, and its 12th iteration set records for the series in both hours of watch time and peak viewership. Malaysia is the third-largest region for ML:BB esports viewership and as the region continues to grow its viewership is steadily increasing.

The MPL Malaysia finished its 12th season of competition on the 8th of October, after accumulating 9.3M hours of watch time. Although the region isn’t as large as the Phillippines or Indonesian league, which we predict to potentially break the 100M Hours Watched barrier soon, it stands ahead of the other regional leagues as the third-most-watched MPL region in the world.
9.3M Hours Watched marks a new watch time record for the MPL Malaysia, and viewership is steadily increasing for the league season after season. The Season 12 Grand Finals also saw the highest Peak Viewers figure for the Malaysian MPL, with 551.8K concurrent viewers recorded at peak. The Grand Final was an exciting match as Homebois’ Malaysian/Indonesian roster managed to take an MPL Championship, after overcoming the Philippino/Malaysian Team SMG roster.
TikTok was the most popular platform for the league, a rare sight in esports viewership. YouTube Live streams were responsible for a majority of the watch time of the league, but TikTok recorded the highest Peak Viewers figure of any platform that covered the league. The majority of these viewers were recorded on the various official broadcasts for the league on the platform. Although TikTok has been an important platform for MPL Malaysia in the past, Season 12 marks the first time that YouTube was less popular than the mobile platform.
Mobile gaming is one of the biggest esports industries in the world, and the growth in this area of esports is extremely quick. MPL Indonesia has been growing by roughly 10M hours of watch time every season for the past couple of seasons, and MPL Malaysia is no different.
MPL Malaysia Viewership Comparison

Season 12 of the MPL in Malaysia experienced rapid growth compared to the previous seasons in all major metrics. The new Peak Viewers record which was achieved with the help of Tik Tok viewership is more than double that of what was achieved by the league a year ago during Season 10.
Not only is the popularity of the league growing for the final events of playoffs, but the overall watch time of the league has also been increasing season after season. Although Season 11’s increase to 6.3M HW from 6.1M the previous season may seem small, this is coupled with the fact that the Airtime for the MPL Malaysia dropped by about 60 hours from Season 10 to 11.
Even going back in our databases through the entirety of the MPL Malaysia seasons, including when the league was combined with Singapore and hosted as MPL Malaysia/Singapore, the consistent growth of the MPL Malaysia prevails. The first-ever MPL Malaysia season received only 64K hours of watch time and recorded 6.5K Peak Viewers. Since then, the MPL’s viewership, both Hours Watched and Peak Viewers, has consistently grown and increased season after season.
The MPL Malaysia, although not as big as the Indonesian or Philippino leagues, has consistently been growing in watch time and viewership ever since its inaugural season hosted in 2018. Keep an eye out for the viewership statistics for the 13th season of MPL Malaysia, which will start early next year.
