December 12 marked the end of the first of three stages of the Rocket League esports season 2021-22. The format of RLCS went through a radical change once again: now the regional majors are once again running together offline. In the new article, Esports Charts will discuss the impact of the return to the pre-pandemic system on the RLCS 2021-22 Fall Split Major viewership statistics.

What has changed since RLCS Season X?

Due to the coronavirus epidemic in 2020, the developers have divided the league into three splits: Fall, Winter, and Spring for North America, Europe, and Oceania with majors for each region. For the 2021/2022 season, the division into three splits remained, but more countries were added for regional competitions: Asia-Pacific, Maghreb, Middle East, and South America. The most important change is that the final majors of the splits are now held not separately by country but rather within the same tournament.

RLCS 2021-22 Fall Split Major was held from December 8 to 12. 16 teams played at the Major, standing out among which were G2 EsportsFaZe ClanTeam Vitality, and FURIA Esports – the teams known to us for their success in other disciplines.

The competition was held offline in ESL Sweden Studio. The prize pool of the tournament consisted of $300K and RLCS points. The teams with the most points will go to the World Championship, while the rest will have to qualify for the World Championship via Wildcard.

The winner of the RLCS 2021-22 Fall Split Major was Team BDS, which hails from Sweden and is also the best in Europe (they won all three Majors of the 10th season). In the final, the French-Spanish team defeated the American team The General NRG (the respective series scores being 4:1 and 4:3)

Viewership statistics of RLCS 2021-22 Fall Split Major

Fall Split Major was broadcasted on Twitch (94% of Total Hours Watched) and YouTube. The Twitch channel /rocketleague gathered the most viewers with 208K Peak Viewers. The new season of the Rocket League was broadcast by the Ukrainian studio Maincast, one of the most popular in the CIS (the channel was followed by 3.8K Peak Viewers). A separate studio was also created for Latin America.

Overall, most of the audience was English-speaking, but the split was also watched by viewers from French, Portuguese, Spanish, and other channels. In addition to the official channels, the event was also broadcast by RLCS players, of which Rizzo gathered the most viewers – 14K.

The most popular match of the Major was the final game between NRG Esports and Team BDS, which attracted 280K Peak Viewers. Both of these teams were favorites who enjoyed the greatest success with the audience – as their matches were watched by 162K Average Viewers.

How did the unification of regions affect statistics?

We've compared RLCS Season 11 to the final events of Season 10. Fall Split Major has been on air twice as long as the last regional championships – and this has led to a twofold increase in Hours Watched.

The tournament also improved its Peak Viewers indicator, given that the event attracted a new audience thanks to teams from the league’s new regions. Last season, North America was the leader in terms of viewership, and compared to that, the Average Viewers indicator of the fall major grew by 10%.

The numbers of Season 11 have improved from Season 10, but will the stats continue to grow? The unification of the regions had a positive effect on the indicators, but when taking the new regions and the return of LAN into account, it should be said that the result is not as impressive as it could have been. As for reaching a more relevant conclusion regarding the influence of the unification – that’s something that will become possible closer to the end of the season, which is when the entire dynamics of the season (from major to major) will become clear.
