Europe, NA continue to shine among RLCS 2024 qualifier regions
Recently, a few of the qualifier events for the second Major of the Rocket League competitive season concluded. So far, we have seen two of the three rounds of the Open Qualifiers finish in the North America, MENA, South America, and Sub-Saharan Africa regions, while the Europe, Oceania, and Asia-Pacific regions still have a couple of events to come.
Among the qualifier competitions that have come to a close, the European region continued to be the most successful. It was the only one to cross 100K Peak Viewers and one million Hours Watched, with its most popular match coming from the Grand Final between Team Vitality and Gentle Mates Alpine.
French teams and viewers are a major reason for the success of this region, with the game enjoying a massive following among fans from this powerhouse nation. With the RLCS 2024 - Major 2: EU Open Qualifier 4 finalists (and four of the top eight) being from this country, it was always going to be a case of their supporters being the most visible when it came to the audience base.
Similarly, French content creators also keenly follow the happenings of Rocket League tournaments, especially those whose teams are also in action. This meant the likes of Gotaga (owner of Gentle Mates Alpine) and Kamet0 (owner of Karmine Corp) were near the top when it came to the most popular channels.
There is also Solary, the side owned by the renowned French media organization of the same name whose official channel also usually contributes a lot to the viewership dynamics. In fact, if the side had entered the Swiss Stage instead of losing in the top 64 portion of the Double Elimination Bracket, the audience figures could have been higher.
The NA qualifiers were the next-best performing tournaments, with Qualifier 4 hitting 80K PV and Qualifier 5 notching 68.4K PV. With some of the biggest names in esports coming out of this region, it is no surprise that its events put up such robust numbers.
G2 Stride, Gen.G Mobil1 Racing, and Spacestation Gaming are some of the star teams from North America battling it out to seal their spots at the RLCS 2024 - Major 2. With one more Online Qualifier to go (May 17 to 26), there's lots at stake, and it remains to be seen which are the top four sides to progress and seal their ticket to the Copper Box Arena in London.
It is easy to see why the above two regions have been given the most number of slots at the international Rocket League events. They consistently generate high viewership numbers and house some of the discipline's most popular sides, which can only be good for attracting fans from all over the globe.
The other regions and their Open Qualifiers produced numbers that were in keeping with what they usually generate. But these teams will be looking to gain momentum and go into the second Major knowing they will need to try and break the hegemony that EU and NA sides have enjoyed at recent global tournaments.
