Valorant Game Changers final becomes the most popular female esports event of 2024

Nov 19, 2024 5 min read

Almost three months after EDward Gaming were crowned Valorant Champions 2024, the Valorant Game Changers season held its Championship 2024 event. The grand finals of the tournament were co-streamed by various popular Valorant creators, leading to the highest peak viewership the Game Changers series has seen. The Game Changers series is the official Valorant circuit for women and marginalized genders.

The grand final in 2024 was particularly explosive, reaching a peak viewership far ahead of any other match. However, just before this final, the Lower Bracket Final match between G2 Gozen and MIBR GC broke the series viewership record, clocking in at 278.4K Peak Viewers. The final match of the event between Shopify Rebellion and MIBR GC recorded 464.5K Peak Viewers, marking a 58% growth compared to the previous peak viewership series record from last year.

As of November 18, this peak viewership is the highest concurrent viewers count reached by any female esports event in 2024. The GC event outperformed the EWC x MLBB Women’s Invitational 2024, and even reached higher peak viewerships than the Queens League, a popular footballing series among Spanish-speaking audiences.

The grand final match between MIBR GC and SR was an ideal match-up. The Brazilian team attracted a significant regional audience, which falls under the Portuguese-speaking umbrella, and Shopify Rebellion are one of the most popular teams in Game Changers. SR’s players meL, alexis, Noia, and sarah now all held multiple GC championships, and SR Florescent has been hinting at joining the tier-one scene.

Most of the viewership for the Valorant Game Changers Championship 2024 came from a large English-speaking viewership found largely on Twitch. However, regional demographics like French, Japanese, Spanish-speaking, and Portuguese-speaking fans were also significant contributors: cumulatively, these demographics rivaled English-speaking fans in size.

Access through the dashboard also includes access to the viewership for individual channels that covered the event, allowing a deeper understanding of where and how esports fans watch events.

All language groups for the event were significantly supported by co-casts, featuring popular Valorant creators at the peaks. The integration of co-streams for the event was crucial in reaching the event’s full viewership potential; official broadcasts contributed only 45% of the event’s total viewership. Of co-streams, the most popular broadcasts represented international English speakers, as well as Spanish, Portuguese, and French-speaking Valorant esports fans.

Despite widespread co-casting, the official Valorant Twitch channel remained the most popular option for fans to watch. The official Twitch account recorded 1.18M Hours Watched, while the official Valorant Champions Tour YouTube account recorded only 397.8K Hours Watched. The Twitch-based broadcast was also the most popular channel, with 71.8K Peak Viewers recorded during the final.

Kyedae was the most popular co-caster of the event, with 672.6K HW and 54.1K Peak Viewers for the final. Kyedae attended the event in person, hosting a watch party with TenZ and other Valorant personalities. Her broadcast was slightly more popular than mixwell, who also hosted an in-person watch party at the event, but for Spanish-speaking fans.

The official broadcasts and those co-streamers who officially held watch parties from the venue all had Twitch Drops integrated with their broadcasts. Fans could unlock exclusive items for Valorant by watching these broadcasts, which helped to boost the viewership of all these affected channels.

Helydia was the next most popular co-streamer who live broadcasted from the venue. She was the leading French-language option for fans, and the final game of the event was her second-most popular broadcast ever at 39.8K PV. Tarik and Sacy were the leading co-streamers who broadcasted the event from home. Sacy’s Portuguese-language broadcasts were highly watched at 324.3K Hours Watched; the Brazilian’s transition from esports competition to full-time content creation is clearly going smoothly.

The Valorant Game Changers Championship 2024 hosted an extremely popular grand finals thanks to the many co-casters who supported the event from home and those who were invited to host in-person watch parties for the tournament. Overall, viewership for the tournament remained strong, with a slight record achieved in watch time for the series, which was also helped by the event’s long airtime.
