Last week marked the end of the fifth, anniversary season of the WePlay Academy League, which was attended by the youth rosters of 13 major esports organizations, from Natus Vincere to FURIA Esports. In the new article, Esports Charts overviews the results of the CS:GO tournament, its viewer statistics, as well as the most popular teams and broadcast channels.
Tournament results
Initially, 14 teams were supposed to participate in WePlay Academy League Season 5, but the Brazilian Young Gods were disqualified because of being unable to play with their full roster. As a result of the group stage, five teams left the event, including MOUZ NXT, a four-time league champion. Fnatic Rising and BIG Academy became the best in their groups and went straight to the playoffs. At the same time, the roster of the German club lost only one map out of ten, which is the best result in the group stage.

Astralis Talent and Spirit Academy became the strongest teams in the Play-In (the second stage of the tournament). On their way to the playoffs, Astralis.T knocked FURIA Academy and NAVI Junior out of the tournament, while OG Academy and Young Ninjas left the event with the help of Spirit.A.
As a result of the playoffs, Spirit Academy and Fnatic Rising reached the grand finals. In the match for the title, the Eastern European team lost to the Western European team on two maps in a row. While the match on Mirage featured fierce competition and ended with a score of 14:16, the game on Inferno was rather bland, as shown by its score of 1:16.

Top WePlay Academy League events
Among all seasons of the WePlay Academy League, the indicators showed by the fifth one were nearly the worst, losing to the first, second, and third seasons of the league both by Average and Peak Viewers. At the same time, WAL S5 still got ahead of the fourth season, gathering 2.5 times more Average Viewers and 70% more Peak Viewers. It should be reminded that WePlay Esports abandoned the official Russian-language broadcast starting from the fourth season, so SL4M began broadcasting WLA matches in Russian as a community caster. Because of this decision, the league lost much of its audience, but it seems that the situation has begun to improve.
