Vietnamese viewership outperformed English for the first time at Worlds 2023 main event
The third round of the Swiss Stage group at Worlds 2023 took place across three days, spanning from the 21 to 23 of October. The third round featured the first elimination and qualification matches for the Playoffs stage, and viewership reached peaks for certain languages.
At this point, Gen.G and JD Gaming both qualified for the Knockout Stage of the event, thanks to their flawless 3-0 record in the Swiss Group. Team BDS of the EMEA region and Team Liquid of North America have both been eliminated from the World Championship, as they are the first two teams to have a 0-3 record. These elimination and qualification matches were highly popular and set some new records for the event’s viewership.

The most popular match of the Round was G2 Esports’ game against Gen.G. The Korean roster of Gen.G was ultimately victorious and managed to secure their spot in the Playoffs. Although this match was highly popular, it was not when the Korean Peak of 449.6K was reached. Korean viewership reached its peak during the match between KT Rolster and Weibo Gaming.
Thanks to G2 Esports’ popularity in Europe, the match recorded the English Peak of Round 3, 466K PV. The match also saw European languages like French, German, and Polish set their highest peaks for the Worlds 2023 event. G2 Esports are scheduled to play the North American NRG roster next, on October 28. By combining both the EMEA and NA regions, this match may set a new English Peak for the tournament.
On the 22 and 23 October, Korean once again managed to reach a higher Peak Viewers figure than English. However, October 23 marked the first time in the event that English was only the third-most-popular language of the day. Vietnamese reached 365.2K PV on Day 5, recording more PV than English for the first time in the main event. This was achieved thanks to a match on the other end of the bracket: the elimination match between GAM Esports and Team Liquid.
GAM Esports has had a rough start to the main event, as they lost their first two matches and Vietnamese viewership began to fall. On the cusp of elimination, the Vietnamese roster managed to win their first match of the Swiss Stage, narrowly avoiding being sent home. Thanks to their star performance, Vietnamese viewership reached its highest peak at Worlds 2023 so far.
Round 4 of Worlds 2023 begins this Thursday, October 26, and with Team BDS and Team Liquid already eliminated, the next set of teams is up for elimination. Six teams face potential elimination in the upcoming week: Cloud9, Dplus KIA, Fnatic, GAM Esports, MAD Lions, and Weibo Gaming.
