Dota 2 Champions League Season 6 Overview — new viewership record thanks to NAVI

Dota 2 Champions League 2021 Season 6 has come to an end. For the first time in years the event featured the most watched team of the region Natus Vincere, and that helped the series a lot in reaching new record by viewers. Esports Charts breaks down the results of the tournament and its viewership statistics.

D2CL S6 featured 13 teams from CIS and Europe: four of them got direct invites to the playoffs, while others started off in the group stage. Among the notable participants one can name Team Empire, Entity, Nemiga Gaming, Coolguys and CIS Rejects with former VP & NAVI stars.

Initially, NAVI were not supposed to play in the tournament. HellRaisers were an invited team, but it withdrew from the tournament before the start of playoffs, and Natus Vincere took its place. And it helped the competition attract additional spectators.

NAVI reached the grand finals of D2CL Season 6, where they met with Tickles squad featuring former Team Secret carry Markus Ace Christensen. NAVI lost with a score of 2:3 in a tense fight, and the match itself peaked at 123K viewers. No other event in the series gathered more.

It should be noted that four NAVI games entered the top 5 matches of the tournament by Peak Viewers. The top five was closed by a controversial game between Entity and CIS Rejects. It was a match between Fishman and RAMZES666, who clashed several times in public games during live-streams: one of such conflicts became a meme in CIS community. Yet, this game gathered only 40.3K people, while the audience at NAVI games was much larger.

NAVI became the most popular team of the tournament by a wide margin. Its matches had almost 57K Average Viewers, which is 30% more than the Tickles which is a runner-up by the metric. At the same time, it should be noted that the winners of the event met NAVI twice during the playoffs, and this has increased their statistics.

The presence of NAVI in the tournament is a guarantee of high numbers in terms of viewers, which is confirmed by the results of D2CL Season 6. Although the team has not won major tournaments for quite a long time, it still leads in the CIS by audience: and the situation has not changed much even even after the victory of Team Spirit at The International 10.
